Scottish Dancing

Since we have come back to school after the winter holidays we have been practising Scottish dancing for the P6 and P7 Burns Supper. The first dance we practised was ‘Strip the Willow’, this is a fast song that makes you lose your breath but it is really fun twirling round and round with our partner.

We are also doing a dance with the Primary 7 class called ‘Gay Gordon’s.’ As a class we prefer the Strip the Willow dance but we will let the parents decide which they prefer on Wednesday the 25th, Burns Supper day. We hope to see you there!

SECRET CHANUKAH

In primary 6 we organised a Secret Chanukah.  Secret Chanukah is when you are given a random name of someone in the class who you have to buy a Chanukah present for. As a class we decided it would be best to spend no more than £3 and to exchange gifts on Thursday the 22nd of December. Everyone was very excited to shop for presents and to find out what they got!

Class Dojo Reward Party

This week we had a movie and pyjama party to celebrate all the dojo points we have achieved as a class. After lunch we all changed into our pyjamas and moved the desks back to make our very own cinema in the classroom. Some people wore house gowns, onesies, slippers and fluffy socks. Earlier on in the day we voted on what film to watch and ‘The Parent Trap’ got the most votes. Miss Aslam bought us all some salty and sweet popcorn and maltesers.

It was such a relaxing afternoon! IF ONLY we could have a movie afternoon every day!

Chanukah Art

In preparation for Chanukah we have been doing lots of Chanukah art to display around our school. Chanukah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. It starts on the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev. Primary 6 created art work to put on our classroom windows (stained glass). We thought it would be a nice idea to create a Chanukiah around our display. Check it out below!

Disco night!

On Thursday we had our school disco. This year we had a new DJ and he was much better than the last because the songs were actually fun to dance to. One of our favourite parts about the disco was playing the Calderwood Lodge Mannequin Challenge. This is similar to musical statues. The winners were Corin and Rachel. We also played the four corners game and because Miss Aslam was representing the purple corner, all of our class decided to go to that corner BUT we were the first corner to lose! It was a fantastic night! We had the best time ever!

Mitzvah Week

Last week all the classes in the school did a Mitzvah activity for Mitzvah week. A Mitzvah is a good deed. Our class decided to help out in the lunch hall. The easiest way for us to choose who would be helping out each day was by selecting names from the register (top to bottom). It was fun to help out but it was also really hard to get the younger children to eat all their food. We got to serve them their lunch and we chatted to them too. We also got to dismiss them when they put their hands up to say they were finished eating.

Mannequin Challenge by Primary 6

This week our class decided to attempt the mannequin challenge. For those of you who don’t know the mannequin challenge is a viral internet video trend where people remain frozen in action like mannequins while a video is recorded, usually with the song “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background.

This means that whenever Miss Aslam shouts “mannequin challenge” we all have to stop what we’re doing and freeze as though we are mannequins! We recorded a video which you can watch below by clicking on the links. (We had to upload the video as 3 separate videos). We hope you enjoy watching our mannequin challenge!

School Book Fair

Last week we were given a very important job……running the school book fair! We worked in groups of three at the book fair. We were given a rota by Mr Robson. Some children covered during break time, some during lunch and some during class time. We had to work out the correct change to give to our customers (pupils from different classes), it’s a good thing we know how to do calculations mentally! We also had to keep a note of the books/items sold and the ones which we had to order. A great amount of money was raised. It was so much fun but so stressful at the same time!

Another day another trip!

On the 10th of November our class and P6C from St. Cadocs Primary School went to the National Museum of Rural Life. This is part of our Alton Farm project. First we got on a bus and St. Cadocs were already on the bus. When we got there we were split into three groups. There were three different activities planned for the day. One of the activities was looking around the museum where we got given sheets and had to fill in information that we got by looking around. They also had a farm there and when we got to the cows we were all practically holding our noses, but the baby ones were so cute that the horrible smell was worth it. Then we had our lunch which was delicious. The third activity was the best one and that was a workshop called Field to Fork. At the start of the workshop we had to imagine we were farmers then we got to make flour and we planted coriander seeds that are growing right now. It was a great day!

Have a look at some of the photos from our trip below!
