Happy Purim

On Friday the 10th of March, Calderwood Lodge celebrated the Jewish festival of Purim. Purim commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to kill all the Jews. This took place in the ancient Achaemenid Persian Empire. The story is recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther.

During the day we took part in different stations in each classroom. We began in the hall where each class paraded on the stage.

Station A – Quiz

Station B – Drama

Station C – Games in the hall

Station D – Hamantaschen and story telling

Station E – Mask Making

Station F – Mishloach Manot bag decorating

Station G – Dancing with Shosh

Station H – Puzzles and games

We all enjoyed dressing up in our fancy clothes and costumes. Here is what Primary 6 dressed as:

Esther – Doctor

Zipporah – Guitarist

Zidane and Fatimah – Pirates

Ava and Jenna – Mario and Luigi

Daniel – Storm Trooper

Jamie – Ash Ketchum

Ben – Astronaut

Flora – Ice Skater

Zaynah – Wonder Woman

Harrison – Bobba Fet

Faizan – Kylo Ren

Louis – Freddy Fuzz Bear

Sophia – Little Red Riding Hood

Ksenia – Unicorn

T.J – Mad Hatter

Zak – Dalmation

Ellie – Persian Girl

Miss Aslam – Bunch of purple grapes

Our favourite staff costumes were Mr Guetta who was dressed as a girl from Tel Aviv and Miss Aslam and Miss Reid who were dressed as a bunch of grapes.

It was a day full of fun and excitement!

Purim Preparations

As Purim was fast approaching, Primary 6 were chosen to bake Hamantaschen. A hamantash is a triangular shaped, filled-pocket cookie or pastry which is usually associated with the Jewish holiday of Purim which is on Sunday. They are shaped after Haman’s ears. Primary 1 also joined us to help bake. Mrs Rosenberg grouped us so that we were able to support the younger children. She demonstrated how to make a hamantash and then we all got to have a go ourselves. Some were filled with jam and others filled with chocolate chips. We all enjoyed baking and working with the Primary 1 class.

Emek House Party

This week Emek won the house party for first term (Hooray!)

We get house points for good behaviour and certificates! House points can also be removed for things such as chatting during prayers. Emek won with a total of 470 Points (wow!)

At the house party you could choose from either playing the X-box (Fifa game) or you could take part in party games which included prizes such as lip balms, bath bombs, colouring books, stickers and mini footballs. Some of the games we played were dodge ball, octopus, musical statues, musical bumps and splat.

A shout out to Ben and Abi in P7 for organising a fun afternoon!

SECRET CHANUKAH

In primary 6 we organised a Secret Chanukah.  Secret Chanukah is when you are given a random name of someone in the class who you have to buy a Chanukah present for. As a class we decided it would be best to spend no more than £3 and to exchange gifts on Thursday the 22nd of December. Everyone was very excited to shop for presents and to find out what they got!

Disco night!

On Thursday we had our school disco. This year we had a new DJ and he was much better than the last because the songs were actually fun to dance to. One of our favourite parts about the disco was playing the Calderwood Lodge Mannequin Challenge. This is similar to musical statues. The winners were Corin and Rachel. We also played the four corners game and because Miss Aslam was representing the purple corner, all of our class decided to go to that corner BUT we were the first corner to lose! It was a fantastic night! We had the best time ever!

Mitzvah Week

Last week all the classes in the school did a Mitzvah activity for Mitzvah week. A Mitzvah is a good deed. Our class decided to help out in the lunch hall. The easiest way for us to choose who would be helping out each day was by selecting names from the register (top to bottom). It was fun to help out but it was also really hard to get the younger children to eat all their food. We got to serve them their lunch and we chatted to them too. We also got to dismiss them when they put their hands up to say they were finished eating.

School Book Fair

Last week we were given a very important job……running the school book fair! We worked in groups of three at the book fair. We were given a rota by Mr Robson. Some children covered during break time, some during lunch and some during class time. We had to work out the correct change to give to our customers (pupils from different classes), it’s a good thing we know how to do calculations mentally! We also had to keep a note of the books/items sold and the ones which we had to order. A great amount of money was raised. It was so much fun but so stressful at the same time!

School Pantomime

This week we had a school pantomime of CINDERELLA! It was fantastic, especially all the music and songs. There were 6 characters but only 4 actors. All the classes were seated in the hall and split up into two sections, half on the left and half on the right hand side with an empty aisle in between for the actors to run up and give high fives to all the children! Everyone agreed that is was by far the best pantomime ever in our school!

We all hope that our pantomime next year will be EVEN BETTER!

Primary 6 Alton Farm Project

On the 7th of October our class went to St Cadocs Primary School to begin our new school project together with the three primary 6 classes at the school. The project is called the Alton Farm project and we will be working on this till the December holidays.

Firstly a women named Ana lead a presentation about the new school, mostly about the playground. We were excited to know that we are going to have monkey-bars and climbing walls in the play area of the playground. Next we worked in groups with other P6 children to answer questions about what we know and what we want to know about the project. At the end of the day we took part in a design activity.

We look forward to taking part in this project and working with other children from St Cadocs.
