Today P6C listened to a presentation from the Primary 7’s Reader Leaders. Because we only have 2 more pupil groups left this year, we thought we should look at our action plan and see how we are doing. All of the Primary 7 leaders talked about the action plan and what they have completed and what we still need to complete. after that Mrs King gave a quick presentation about what we are going to be doing today. Mrs King explained that we are going to work on the last targets on our action plan – to look for book corner/area themes and design one for a year group of our choice.  Once we found a book corner theme we like, we will search up that specific theme and draw and label the plan for our book area. Then we will find items that suit our theme on the Ikea UK website to keep a running cost. We have a £50 budget for each class that the Parent Council kindly granted us and we cannot go over the limit.

On Wednesday, the P7 Reader Leaders explained that we should check over our pupil group action plan to make sure we have covered all our action points because we only have a couple of meetings to go before the end of the year. So, all of the P7 Reader leaders took a section of the action plan each and led groups of p6s.

Our groups had to say what we had done so far with each action plan point, how well we had done it or what we plan to do with it.  In our next meeting the p7 Reader Leaders will present all of this to the whole of primary 6c so that everyone knows where we are at with the action plan.

The groups made power point pages for the presentation. Some of the things on the actions were making book recommendations or designing lanyards so the younger students can ask about reading to the older students.

Everyone worked together (see photos below)  and the powerpoint will be shared on this blog as well as with P6c and P4a at the next meeting.

Wednesday 4.5.22

First we looked at the blog for our pupil group and we looked at what the primary 6 class had been doing.

Then Mrs Henry and the P7 Reader Leaders explained to P4c what we would be doing today. We were going to be making power points about book recommendations for different year groups.

Then we looked at a website that told us about good books for different year groups.

After that we split into groups and Mrs Henry assigned each group a year that we would be making the power point for. We logged into our computers and opened up power point.

We started by creating the title page. Then we made sure to save the power points because we knew that we wouldn’t finish them today.

Then we opened the website that we looked at earlier on our computers and we also opened the survey that we created a few weeks ago and we looked at the question that asked ” What is your favourite book?” for different year groups.

To create our power points we had to switch between the list and the website to get ideas of what to put in our power points.

We then split our groups in half and one half continued the power point about recommended books and the other half got another laptop and started a power point about recommended authors for whichever year group we were doing.

After we worked for a little longer we made sure the all the power points were saved and we signed off of our laptops.

16/3/22

1. We all watched a video about celebrity’s favourite books. This will help P4 make a survey for the whole school asking about recommended reads and suggestions for books we can add to our class libraries.

  • We started by writing down questions for a pupil survey to see which books pupils will recommend and what books could be added to their class libraries
  •  We then carefully selected the ideas from pupils to add to the survey.

2.  P6 came and showed us their Leader Reader lanyards.
3. The P4’s then had a shot at making their own lanyards. The lanyards say ‘Ask Me What I’m Reading’ and encourage people to talk about books.

Today  Primary 6c  worked on some of their e-books for younger pupils.

Some of the group made videos for school assemblies recommending good reads.

Another group worked on questions to help them when they lead a P3 Book Blether group at lunchtime. The questions will ask the P3s about the books they like and if they would recommend them to others.

They also finished off their posters on welcoming Cressida Cowell because  she is coming to visit our school on Tuesday which will be broadcast to some classrooms.

She is the author of the best selling series How To Train A Dragon and The Wizard Of Once.

They have made some amazing pictures. Here are some of them.

Minutes Wednesday 19th January 2022

Today the Primary 6’s have been designing their own badges after being inspired by one of the Primary 7’s designs. They have made some impressive designs. Here are some photos. Many of the designs are very colourful and creative.

The badge designs will be made into lanyards so the P6’s can wear them in the playground and other places around the school. The lanyards say ‘ask me what I’m reading’ to encourage people to talk about books.
