Science Week

This morning we had to design a carrier to take  2 ping pong balls down a zip wire. We could use straws, sellotape, paper, paper plates, cardboard and yogurt pots. We tried using string and dental floss for our zip wire. We found out that the carrier went faster if we put Lego or stones in with the ping pong balls to make it heavier.

We also experimented with ice cubes to  find out how quickly we could melt them. We wrapped some in felt, paper, bubble wrap, tin foil  and a glove, others in cold water, on a heater and in a plastic bag and some in our hands. We discovered that the ones in our hands melted the quickest and in the felt took the longest to melt. We then all got an ice cube in our hands and  had a race to see who could  melt it first!

P1a Trip to the Museum of Rural Life

Today we went on our first school trip  and it was great !! We had a workshop telling us about how we get our food from the farm to the shops and we looked at farm tools from the past. We planted seeds and made our own pot from paper!

Then we took a tractor ride up to the farm where we saw cows, pigs, hens, Mhairi the horse and the farm cat. The best part for many of us was that Freddie the  calf had just been born an hour before we got there and we saw him standing up for the first time.

Outdoor Learning in P1a

We have been learning to count in 10’s to 100.

Today we went outside and tried to collect 100  things such as stones and sticks.

We put them in groups of 10 to help us count up to 100.

Chinese New Year in P1a

We have been learning about Chinese New Year this week.

We have made fans and dragons and used special calligraphy brushes to paint Chinese letters and make red banners.
