Yesterday we began reading The Dragon Machine. We realised that there were lots of dragons hiding around the school so we went on a hunt to find them. We had to describe where we found them and what they looked like. Today we used the prepositions, adjectives, alliteration and similes we collected to write sentences about them. Check out our ideas.
Science – Heart rate investigation
Today we were finding out how to keep the heart healthy. We discovered that exercise is a great way to maintain heart health so we did short bursts of exercise and took our pulse rates afterwards. Look at us go!
Numeracy – Number Sequences
Today we are practising number sequences by counting in 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s. Counting in 3s and 4s was really tricky. We timed ourselves to see who could go the highest. Check out some pictures of our work.
Music – Inventing
This week we have been working on inventing our own rhythms. We performed them for the class using drumsticks. Look at our ideas below!
Literacy – The Lost Words
We are working hard on publishing our spell songs inspired by The Lost Words.
Marsailidh – We made an exploding book and have been jumbling letters to name animals and plants.
Literacy – Vocabulary
We have been investigating the fantastic vocabulary in our new Big Cats books. Open the files below to see some of the words we have been working on. Challenge yourself and try to use the words we have discussed in your personal writing and in conversations.
Big Cats – Think Again – Vocabulary Boost session
Big Cats – Breath – Vocabulary Boost session
Numeracy
This week we investigated the 9 times table. We made counting strips to help us count in 9s and then we looked for patterns. Keep practising P4c!
Outdoor Learning – Scavenger Hunt
Today we went on an autumn scavenger hunt. We were looking closely at the items we found so that we can write our own spell songs inspired by Robert Macfarlane’s Lost Words.
Lucy – it was fun but it was hard to find some of the items. We enjoyed looking closely and ticking the items off our list.
Numeracy and Technology – Coding
This week we were working on directions in our coding lessons. We learnt that you could put a loop inside another loop to direct the zombie to the sunflower.
Marsalaidh – We had to get the zombie to the sunflower so we had to work out all the directions. Some of them were easy and some of them were hard.
Numeracy – Money Advice Scotland
Today we had a visitor from Money Advice Scotland. They gave us a fun quiz about money and we had a guess the price activity. Look at our fantastic work.
Emma – It was really hard to answer some of the quiz questions.
Laura – We tried to figure out how much the items cost individually and altogether.
