Science

We having been learning about the body. Today we had to guess where our major organs are in the body. We drew round a person in our group and stuck on the brain, heart, liver, lungs and digestive system.

Music

In Music, we have been learning the new sound ‘ray’ and matching the rhythms to the words in the song. We enjoyed playing a game with Mrs Lyall, where we had to bounce the ball in time and  sing and do the actions to Bom macalali song.

HALLOWEEN

This festival was originaly called Samhain. But due to unusual changes a man changed the name to Halloween, because he liked the idea that it should have a more scary name because it linked up with the whole point of the festival.

Halloween Healthy Treats

Today we had a real treat (not a trick)! The dinner ladies helped us to make Healthy fruit snacks which were in the shape of witches.  We used an apple for the face, grapes for the hat and eyes, strawberries for the nose and an orange segment for the mouth. We also had the chance to make fruit kebabs, which we enjoyed at snack time.   A big thank you to the dinner ladies, who helped organise and prepare for this fun activity.

Photos to follow.

Maths Week

At the beginning of the week we were using our ,mathematical skills outside. It was lots of fun!

Today we created a Figure me out poster. The children created calculations for numbers that represent them i.e. age, birth date

The class loved sharing their maths week homework. Lots of mathematical skills have been used in baking/cooking (measuring, weighing, cost, timing), creating problems for the class ( using addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) throwing like an Olympian (estimating, measuring, calculating the mean number). We look forward to hearing the rest of the presentations next week.

We have also been using our maths skills in music, singing  the stations of the tables in a new song. In PE we played numbers corner game, and grouping using the calculations given for our warm up.

Homework week beginning 23rd September 2019

Being numerate helps us to function responsibly in everyday life and contribute effectively to society. It increases our opportunities within the world of work and establishes foundations which can be built upon through lifelong learning. Numeracy is not only a subset of mathematics; it is also a life skill which permeates and supports all areas of learning, allowing young people access to the wider curriculum.    (Education Scotland)

Monday 23rd September  – Family Numeracy and Maths Homework Challenge

Families can choose one activity (or more if you wish) from the grid and work on this together over the next two weeks.  How you record and share your homework is up to you! There are some suggestions on the grid but please feel free to be as inventive as you wish.  This homework will last two weeks. On Friday 4th October, the eldest child in each family should bring in their family homework and the pupils will get a chance to share their activity with the school community.  The homework should be carried out as a family and each activity can be simplified or extended to allow everyone to take part.  There are lots of real life challenges to allow our pupils to see the benefit numeracy and maths has on our everyday life.  These activities are designed to be fun, active and engaging for all our learners.  It will not only promote their numeracy, but it will also develop their problem solving, creativity and collaboration skills.

Please share your learning activities with us on twitter! @kirkhillPS and use our #

Our Maths Games

Primary 4b created their own maths games for homework.  Mrs Miller was very impressed with the imaginative  and creative games which the children designed and made.  The children also did a super job at explaining the rules of their game. Well done!! We loved sharing and playing our games with the class.
