Ancient Egyptians

We looked at our apples after one week. The one without the salt was all rotten. The salt has absorbed the moisture from the other apple and we could see how the mummification process would have worked on the bodies!

We also made mummies and sarcophagus. Check them out!

How to mummify an apple!

We have been learning about the Ancient Egyptian ritual of mummification. On Thursday we mummified an apple! We used lots of different things for our experiment. We left one apple to see what would happen to it and the other we covered with salt and bicarbonate of soda like the Egyptians did with bodies in the past. Come back next week to read about what happened to our apples!

Mummies!

We have been learning about the Ancient Egyptian art of mummification. We found out about how and why they mummified a body. We had some fun making our very own mummies! Can you guess who they are?

VR Ancient Egypt!

We’ve been using the VR equipment as part of our learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We ventured inside Ramesses II’s tomb,  viewed the Pyramids of Giza from above and saw a sarcophagus with the head of Anubis right in front of us! It was really amazing!

Bookbug week!

This week is bookbug week. We joined other children all over Scotland to watch Ross Collins in a live author event on BBC iPlayer. He talked about all the books he has written, read us ‘There’s a bear on my chair’ and drew some of his illustrations. Then he showed us how to draw the bear from the story.

Library visit

We went to the library on Wednesday. We found out how all the books are organised. If you join the library you can borrow 16 books at a time! We heard a story and then we did a quiz to check we were doing good listening. We had a lovely afternoon.

Strawberry planting

This week everyone got to plant some strawberries outside the kitchen.  We they are ripe we can eat them! We had to dig a hole in the soil and then put the plant in, then we we watered them.

“I like planting them because we had to dig and take the weeds out.” Alistair W

“I liked taking out the biggest weed because I had to use a shovel to do it!” Alex
