Thomas Coats Observatory and Paisley Museum

We had a fantastic trip on Thursday and learned more about Space! Our guide Matt showed us the biggest telescope we have ever seen! ๐Ÿ”ญ ย We also spent time in the museum afterwards and were lucky to see lots of interesting artefacts; including dinosaur footprints, Buddy the Lion, two original Rembrandt paintings, WW2 memorabilia, the list goes on! A fascinating place to be! ๐Ÿ˜

Stars

The class have been learning about constellations this week. They have turned into little star gazers! We have looked for hidden stars around the classroom, created our own constellations, learned about the Plough, Orion, Cassiopeia and Canis Major constellations and painted our own version of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous ‘Starry Night’. Reach for the stars P1B! ๐Ÿ’ซโœจ๐Ÿ’ซโœจ

Holi

Through RME the children have been enjoying learning about the Hindu festival of colour. ย During Holi celebrations people throw coloured powder over each other playfully. The class decided to create self portraits and then splashed various colours of paint over them. They look fantastic! The boys and girls then watched a Bollywood style dance which was performed for Holi and it was a roaring success! Lots of new moves learned and the class was buzzing with music and excitement! ๐ŸŽ†๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Rockets

Wow! Primary 1 have been super busy this week! As part of a homework task, the children were invited to create their very own rocket to link in with their new topic. They are out of this world! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€ We will be using these rockets for writing this week as the class will be asked to write about what they see out of their rocket as it flies up to space. They proudly showed them off to P7 as they paraded around the school.ย โ˜บย ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The Moon

The class have chosen to learn about Space as their next topic and as ย one of the children noticed the moon out during the day, we started to explore the eight phases of the moon. ย ๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ”๐ŸŒš By mixing flour and white paint, the boys and girls even created their very own moons.

Spring

Spring has sprung in primary 1B! After the recent heavy snow fall, the sun popped it’s head out and we could even see some blue sky. The children enjoyed painting daffodils whilst listening to relaxing piano music. They also planted flower seeds to give to their Mums for Mother’s Day. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒทโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’•

Growing Potatoes

It is growing season already and the class are excited to be growing their own potatoes. ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ” The potatoes have to sit on a sunny windowsill for two weeks before being planted into potato sacks. This is known as ‘chitting’. ย Here’s hoping for a good harvest this year. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒฑ

What’s the time Mr Wolf?

The class have been enjoying learning about time. Through sequencing daily events, creating their own clocks, exploring digital and analogue clocks, playing games and activities, learning how to write the time, the children have had fun developing their knowledge and understanding about how to tell the time. A firm favourite was playing ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ in P.E! ๐Ÿบ

ย It’s dinner time! ย
