We’ve been doing P.E at Eastwood with the S6s coaching us in different sports. It’s a great opportunity to visit the high school, meet some of the P.E staff and improve our skills in different sports.

We’ve been focusing on art this week. We experimented with shade and highlights using charcoal and chalk to create Tim Burton style portraits. We then looked at the abstract work on Kandinsky and created our own art using shapes and colours to convey emotions.

We’ve been finishing off our mini-topic on historical mysteries. This week the class planned and delivered mini-lessons on a mystery of their choice.
We also had a lot of fun creating a Mayan city from Kapla. It was much more impressive in real life!

We’ve continued learning about historical mysteries. We worked as groups to explore different theories about the Mary Celeste. We also used the iPads to research what happened to the Mayan cities.

This week we took on some matchstick puzzles. We had to move certain numbers of sticks to create or change different patterns and calculations. Some were pretty tricky!
We also spent time discussing Children’s Rights and have started working on our charter. In groups we thought of how we can respect different rights and then we created some information sheets for out charter. Our finished food themed charter will feature in next week’s blog!

We’ve had a great first week settling into our new class. We’ve completed some STEM challenges, first making a wearable name badge with limited materials and then creating our dream school from KAPLA.
For information: When completing the blog I always show children the photos and get their permission to appear. Sometimes this means children don’t feature some weeks.
