Our class novel is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. We have been learning about Ancient Greece and myths to complement our understanding of the novel. Some of our highlights from this week include beginning to explore pottery and how it was used for storytelling aswell as investigating Greek architecture.

Next week we are looking forward to creating our own vases to depict a famous Greek story.
I hope you enjoy reviewing your child’s jotters over the weekend and I look forward to meeting with you next week.
This week Primary 6 had their first introduction to the Playzone Leadership Training Programme. This is an opportunity that is offered to all primary six pupils within ERC. The pupils enjoyed their workshop which was delivered by our Active Schools contact, Tony Bryson.

The pupils learned about the important attributes that will help them promote their leadership skills. Over the coming weeks, pupils will work in teams to plan and deliver the Playzone activities to their classmates, then eventually to the younger pupils. Tony will be popping in to see their progress and the learners will be awarded a certificate upon completion of the course.
We started our final term with a mini learning focus about religious milestones. The pupils understand the importance of a milestone in someone’s life and some religious milestones within Christianity and Judaism. Everyone chose an additional religion to investigate which religious milestones they celebrate. The pupils demonstrated excellent curiosity and respect during the lessons.

Primary six created personalised picture books for their P1 buddies. This afternoon we opened our buddy shop! The P6’s created money wallets and helped their buddies ‘pay’ for their books. The P1 buddies were extremely excited to receive their special books and P6 enjoyed the gifting experience. The P6’s truly embodied Crookfur’s value of kindness today!

This week we continued our learning journey which is related to British Science Week. We combined our knowledge of salt to conduct an experiment to investigate the impact of salt on watercolour. The pupils applied their creativity and curiosity to create a hypothesis then created very unique pieces of salt watercolour art.

This week was British Science Week. This week’s theme was curiosity. The class created scientific questions and created our hypotheses whilst conducting experiments related to our current learning journey.
We used curiosity as our focus throughout lessons, including our maths lessons which explored the equivalences between percentages, decimal numbers and fractions.

This week we celebrated World Book Day. We participated in a number of experiences including:

This term, we have been focusing on developing our musical skills, including learning to play the glockenspiel. Today we received our first music lesson from two S6 pupils from Eastwood High School. They taught us about orchestras, the instrument families and we even got a chance to try their musical instruments.

This week P6C welcomed their buddies to their PE lesson to share their learning. The learners have been learning about rhythm and they can combine several dance moves in a sequence. Miss McNeil and Mrs Docherty were very impressed with how well the learners danced the Gay Gordon’s and the Virginia Reel.
