This week we celebrated World Book Day. We participated in a number of experiences including:

This term, we have been focusing on developing our musical skills, including learning to play the glockenspiel. Today we received our first music lesson from two S6 pupils from Eastwood High School. They taught us about orchestras, the instrument families and we even got a chance to try their musical instruments.

This week P6C welcomed their buddies to their PE lesson to share their learning. The learners have been learning about rhythm and they can combine several dance moves in a sequence. Miss McNeil and Mrs Docherty were very impressed with how well the learners danced the Gay Gordon’s and the Virginia Reel.

Primary 6’s current learning journey is focusing on engineering. The learners have created engineering firms and they are working towards building a new sporting venue for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Thank you to two of our amazing volunteers who have visited the school to speak to the learners about their careers in engineering, the meta skills they use within their work and the link between engineering and maths. It has helped the learners gain a better understanding of how their learning relates to the real world.

Next week is Safer Internet Day. In preparation for Tuesday, P6 invited their buddies to their classroom to discuss how to stay safe when researching online. They showed their buddies how to use Kiddle (a child friendly search engine) and helped them to find facts. The P1’s will use this to help them write a fact file about their favourite animal next week.

This week we applied our learning of finding the area and perimeter of 2D shapes through our new learning journey. The learners discussed the job that require strong knowledge of these math skills. Everyone worked well with their team to recreate the floor plan of our client’s new home then priced up different flooring options.
Miss McNeil

It has been a very exciting week in primary six. Yesterday was a two-day show day where the pupils showcased their learning about Robert Burns, Scots language and Scottish culture. The learners put on an excellent show, thank you to all of the children for their hard work! The whole school
A big thank you to all of the parents and families who helped the children learn their lines and lyrics at home and organised their costumes. It is greatly appreciated!
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and that you enjoy your Burns’ Supper on Sunday!
P6C had a lovely visit from members of the Newton Mearns Baptist Chruch this week. Over the next three weeks they will be delivering the Bible Alive programme. This compliments the pupils previous learning in Primary 5.
We look forward to welcoming you on Thursday at our performances of ‘The Great Scottish Story’!

We have been learning about Christianity and on Wednesday we visited the Newton Mearns Baptist Church to learn more about advent. They had a fantastic morning learning about the Christmas story through drama performances, games and crafts. Thank you to all of the volunteers for such an engaging morning!

We were very lucky to receive a visit from Hannah and Jett from the Caledonia Gladiators this week. To prepare for the visit we applied our skimming and scanning skills to learn about some of the players. The learners used Google Slides to create Top Trump cards which have been printed and they are ready to play!
It was really interesting to hear how the players growth mindsets have supported them in their careers and the skills we need to be good team players.
