Engineers at Work!

This week our classroom has been buzzing with builders, designers, and very determined problem-solvers! Pupils have been putting their maths skills of measure, length, perimeter, and area into action through a series of creative construction challenges.

They’ve worked in small groups to rescue Rudolph from a snowy field by designing mechanisms using K’Nex- turns out Santa’s reindeer are in very safe hands! They then followed a design brief to create their own rockets (all strictly between 30–60cm… NASA would be impressed with their accuracy!).

Applying their measuring skills, the class imagined and planned their own dream homes, using their knowledge of perimeter and area before bringing their ideas to life in 3D using LEGO.

Throughout all of this, they have shown fantastic collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Open Afternoons

Two highlights from our week have been the open afternoons, sharing our learning journey with family members. Continuing our learning journey of textiles in different cultures, we rotated around 6 different stations, applying our learning in different ways, including making Yurts from K’nex and fabrics, creating job adverts and designing our own textile products.

Thank you to everyone who visited our class this week, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Modern Languages – French

Over the past few weeks, Primary 6 have been fortunate enough to have S6 language ambassadors from eastwood High School lead various interactive games, supporting their language development.

We are now more confident with numbers, weather, family members and colours in French. You should ask us to teach you at home.

Sky Up Academy Studios

On Tuesday we had a fantastic visit to Sky Up Academy Studios in Livingston, where we showcased our learning of AI while gaining experience and insight into working in tv production.

What a fantastic experience and a massive thank you to all of the staff at Sky Up Academy for their help and support.

We had our second BSL visit from Emma this week with the lesson focussing  on colours and days of the week. We also learned signs for Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening  and Good Night. We will practise these and try to implement them into our daily routines.
