‘The job I picked was a footballer and for that job you have to work out angles and speed as you need to know were you are going to score. You also need to be able to work out money to understand your salary. Also you’d have to work out timing so that you arrive at your match on time. Footballers also have to measure their fitness ability.’ Ayyan

‘My job was a Formula 1 driver. You would need to understand speed, time, angles and measure!’ Warren

Week beginning 13th September 2021

Welcome back to P6a’s blog! We have had another busy week, read on to find out more!

On Monday Mrs Wilkinson taught us lots of different things! We played Pacman tig in the MUGA for P.E. and had lots of fun! We also learned about data analysis in Maths.

‘During our writing lesson this week, we learned a new skill!’ Lexi

We learned all about pathetic fallacy.

‘This is when you put the weather into writing to tell us what might happen next.’ Warren

‘It basically creates an atmosphere.’ Sam

‘My table (Clan McFour) even decided who would be clan chief, clan farmers and clan warriors!’  Molly

We also designed front covers for our clan booklets and are going to present and peer assess our posters soon!

In Maths we have been analysing data. Some children created surveys and questioned the class.

‘My survey was about favourite colours. The most popular colour in the class was blue and least was silver!’ Nathan

‘My group had a choice between Olympic medals and football points and had to present the data in bar graphs.’ Ayyan

‘Some of us had another choice of graphs. One about airplane  travel and football teams. We had to make 10 questions about the  graphs.’ Emilia

‘I enjoyed listening to Mozart in our Art lesson with Miss Hutchison.’ Euan.

Tune in next time for more!

Working in P6a this week.

Wow!

What a busy time we have had in P6a. We hope you enjoy finding out about some of our learning highlights of the last week.

We chatted to Ms Biggart this afternoon about our learning this week.

Lexi

In P.E. we made up a game with our table group. Then we got to show everyone else what we came up with.

In maths we were learning different times tables and we played Sumdog.

Euan

I enjoyed listening to Johann Sebastian Bach with Mrs Hutchinson. We thought about how the music made us feel and what images the music creates in our mind.

Harry

On Thursday with Mrs Hutchison we listened to a famous piece of music and we wrote what its tempo was and what was the mood. I really enjoyed it.

Jessica

I enjoyed re-planting plants outdoors and finding out information about them on the Chrome book.

I really enjoyed doing prediction on my group book ‘Holes’.

Eleanor

In P.E. it was fun when we played a game called Matball. It is like Dodgeball but if you get caught you stand on a mat (jail) and then try to catch the ball and if you do, you’re free and back in the game again.

P6a blog – Week beginning 30.08.21

Welcome back to our blog! This week we have been very busy. Have a look at some photos below, to find out more.

In Literacy, we learned about the Writer’s Craft and continued a story, focusing on adding senses to up-level our work.

In Maths, we have been developing our problem solving skills. We used our times tables skills and we had to work out the question instead of just the answer. We also  used match sticks (don’t worry, wooden sticks appropriate for school) and Miss McKee displayed pictures. Then we had to move matchsticks to solve the problem in groups.

‘What I found tricky, was working out which match stick to move.’ Bruce

‘I found working out the questions instead of the answer a little tricky but I got it in the end!’ Ayyan

This week, Miss McKee presented three Scottish history topics for us to explore and then vote on. These were, Wallace & Bruce, Scottish Clans and Mary Queen of Scots. In the end, the majority voted for Clans and this will be our new topic!

In our first Clans lesson we had lots of activities relating to Scottish culture. This included, piecing together a jigsaw of Scotland and placing on cities and tourist attractions on the map.

We also were sketching pictures of Scottish thistles and we matched up Scots words with English words. Lastly, we researched information about Scottish clans on Chromebooks to help us get started with our new topic.

‘There were lots of words that I never even knew existed!’ Molly

‘I found it interesting comparing Scots words with English. For example, ‘bonnie’ means beautiful!’ Bella

‘I found it really interesting that some people in our class (including our teacher) may be related to the clans of the past!’  Ayyan

Also this week, we completed our Wow Wall display, which includes frames that we designed and then we chose our best piece of work so far to display. We even added our names in calligraphy and finally some gold leaf!

Tune in next week for more from P6a!

Our first blog!

Welcome to the first blog of Primary 6a!

We have been busy doing different subjects and learning lots this week!

In Health & Wellbeing we have been learning about the ‘Rights of the Child’.  We have also explored how children across the globe have similar or different lives to us.

Here we are sorting 9 out of the 45  ‘Rights of the Child’ and discussing with our groups which are the most important and why.

‘In Outdoor Learning we created our names out of nature!’ Jessica

P6 have been selected to ‘buddy up’ with the Primary 1s! We were very excited about this!

‘In these photos we are writing letters to let them know who we are and what we are like.’ Molly

‘The first time we met our buddies they showed us around their classrooms and we got to know them. On the following days we met them at lunch time and helped them get ready to play outside.’ Lexi

So far a good first full week in P6a! We hope you enjoyed reading our first blog!
