Hello and welcome back!

‘This week we were learning about summarising. We did this through our book Danny (the Champion of the World.) We asked an AI bot questions for the characters and it was really funny.’ Leiyaa

‘We had to summarise what happened to Danny’s dad when he broke his ankle, trying to poach pheasants.’ Theo

‘On Tuesday in RME, we learned about Christians and we finished off the Christmas story. We completed a sheet sequencing it, putting it in the right order. I thought it was fun and exciting.’ Sophia W

‘On Friday, we created a new self portrait using tiny pieces of paper, this is called a mosaic. I enjoyed it a lot!’ Aaniyah

‘When we were doing our mosaics, we had to make sure there were only little gaps between the tiles and for the background we could chose whether to colour it in or add more mosaic tiles. I chose colouring in.’ Millie

‘Last Friday for Topic (Deep Blue Sea) we made clay fish and today  we painted them. I thought it was messy!’ Ava

Hello again, read on to find out more about our busy week!

‘This week we took part in a debate for Scottish Book Week. We were debating if poaching should be legal because it is in Danny the Champion of the World. We wrote down our opinions on sheets.’ Ava

‘After this, we moved all the table to the side of the classroom and we did the debate with people on each side, some for and some  against. Our classroom was meant to look like the House of Commons.’ Sophia H

‘Quite a few people changed their minds! I thought this was fun!’ James

‘On Tuesday we did drama about antibullying.  1 person was acting out being bullied, 1 was a bully and 1 was a bystander.’ Leiyaa

‘Once we had finished rehearsing we got to share our show and lots of peoples were really finny.’ Millie

‘We also started making posters to tell people how to be safe on electronics and sharing tips about being safe.’ Sophia W

‘On Wednesday, P.E. we were playing hockey in the MUGA. We had 4 groups and we played against each other, it was fun!’ Alina

‘We were also practising our ball skills and learning how to dribble with the ball on Thursday.’ Connie

‘In Topic, we finished researching our facts for our fact files. Then in our writing lesson we started typing fact files. We learned to insert a text box and pictures on Google Classroom.’ Erin H

‘We created KWL grids for our topic which is what we know already and what we want to learn. I want to learn about all the different types of sea turtles.’ Sophia H

‘In Maths some people were learning how to double numbers, mental maths and also area.’ Anna

‘In Art we were learning about Antoni Gaudi who was a famous architect who lived in Barcelona. We made mosiacs using coloured pieces of paper.’ Edward

‘My mosiac was a red cherry with brown stalk.’ Menaal

‘Mine was a tub with three scoops of ice cream with a cherry on top. I thought the little pieces of paper were tricky to stick but in the end it turned out really good.’ Millie

‘On Thursday we played a game called Kahoot which is a quiz and you can choose categories. We used Ipads and our quiz was about oceans. I really liked it and want to play again.’ Erin G

‘In P.E. we thought about our heart beat and how different parts of our body move. I noticed that when we were running around it was beating faster and when we were sitting down it was slower.’ Ava

‘This week, on Monday one of our old school houses (Stevenson) got to go to a farm park called Heads of Ayr. I got to go along with some of my friends and it was extremely fun!’ Eleanor

‘We got to go on a big bouncy pillow and everyone bounced on it at the same time. We saw a parrot that could talk and also a big python!’ James

‘Today, there has been voting for the new house captains. I really hope I win!’ Euan

‘I was very nervous watching myself on the stage, I hope I get picked to be a house captain.’ Sam

‘I made a video for the house captain of Skye, I really hope I win too because I think I’d really enjoy it!’ Ayyan

‘Today we got to go to the hall and listen to some people playing musical instruments. I thought they were really good!’ Cara

 

‘This week, we found out our new teacher for P7 will be Mrs Norman. We are all really excited to have her because she is really nice and kind. We wrote her letters explaining things about us she might like to know. On Wednesday we met her, I’m so excited for P7! We will miss Mrs Hobson.’ Molly

‘It was pretty fun to write the letter because it was like writing a real letter to someone else, without putting it in the post.’ Ayyan

 

‘As you know, we have been fixing up the woodland area and today we achieved our John Muir Discovery Award!’ Lexi

‘I’m happy because we achieved the John Muir award and our woodland has really changed.’ Jess

‘On Tuesday we showed our buddies our new and improved woodland. They really enjoyed it and will like playing in it in the future.’ Harry

 

‘On Thursday we created jumping games on a program called Scratch. I found it fun because it was different to a normal lesson.’ Euan

‘Molly and I made a game called MJ Monkey Run. There is a monkey in it which has to jump over a banana. A giraffe is in the background saying Werk it Monkey!’  🙂  Jess

‘Welcome back to the blog. This will be one of our last blogs of the year. This week was filled with exciting things!’ Molly

 

‘This morning we went over to Eastwood for the Celebration Assembly, it was filled with lots of awards and was very fun!’ Euan

‘The awards included best prefects and a special award for Mrs Rattray, the Scott award and also an award for the house with the most points.’ Heather

‘Since it was one of the last P.E. days, we played 3 games instead of 1 to warm up. Toilet tig, after that the bean game and then chaos tig. After these games we played  Kingball which was really fun!’ Ayyan

 

‘This week in art with Mrs Lamont, we learned about cubism this is when the object looks smashed up and you can see different perspectives of the object.’ Harry

‘I really enjoyed cubism!’ James

‘This week on Wednesday we were focusing on our reading books, hopefully we can complete them before the end of term! My group have been reading Shadow. It is a very good book which makes you feel lots of emotions; sad, happy and more!’ Emilia

‘On Tuesday, we found out what our new houses were and soon we will have the chance to be a house captain. We have been asked to make a video and I hope I will be one of the house captains!’ Lauren

‘In maths this week, we were learning to draw angles accurately. I found this fun! We also got to play some fun maths games.’ Jess

‘In Outdoor Learning we were adding pebbles to our woodland area for bugs to live under. Some other people cleaned up planks so that we can make signs.’ Cara

‘In the woodland, I placed my pebble under leaves, hopefully I can remember where I put it so I can check on it! I really hope we can achieve the John Muir award!’ Luca Fr

‘Two weeks ago we did a colour run with our buddies. We ran around the school and parents were throwing powdered chalk at us. We ended up very colourful!’ Molly

‘I had a colourful scalp afterwards, it was orange!’ Heather

‘The reason for this was to raise money for more Outdoor Learning resources so we can have more fun doing these activities.’ Ayyan

 

‘Yesterday with Mrs Hutchison in Art, we had the choice to complete a symmetrical sketch. One half was photocopied and one half was blank. We had to shade, draw and use the correct proportions to complete it.’ Bella

‘I chose the cheetah and in my opinion it looked very nice!’ Harry

 

‘Yesterday, during a Heart Start lesson we learned how to help people who may be having a heart attack, a cardiac arrest, or are unconscious. I tried this out on my sister when I got home!’ Lexi

‘I liked the Heart Start lesson as we learned how to do CPR and other cool stuff!’ Evan

‘We also had an orienteering lesson with Mrs Lamont and we had to find pieces that matched for a game based on map skills.’ Nathan

‘This was really fun, even though it was pouring!’ Molly

‘On Wednesday, we went on another school trip for Health Week. We did things like tennis, yoga, golf and fitness.’ Hollie

‘I enjoyed doing yoga, we learned some new poses like tree, strong and mountain pose.’ Cara

‘My favourite activity was fitness because we got to go on the machines, like the bike and the treadmill.’ Luca Fil

‘At David Lloyd, I enjoyed golf because I’d not done it before!’ Euan

 

 

 

‘On Tuesday, we went to Whitecraigs Rugby Club and did lots of different sports! My favourite was football.’ Lauren

‘I found rugby really fun because it was different to all the other sports.’ Sam

‘The activities that were did were javelin, rugby, football, tennis, dance and karate. I found these all fun because the weather was exquisite!’ Ayyan

 

 

‘We also celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee by having a tea party with our buddies and I really enjoyed this.’ Jess

‘We learned more about the Queen by watching videos and made bunting about things she enjoys, like eating chocolate and horse riding.’ Molly

‘On Wednesday, an instructor called Harry came to our class to teach us about karate. He taught us different blocks, kicks and punches and told us that karate is for self defence.’ Ayyan

‘In writing, we wrote acrostic poems about the Queen and we could chose THE QUEEN, QUEEN’S JUBILEE or PLATINUM JUBILEE.’ Heather

 

 

‘For Outdoor Learning last week, we made bug hotels for insects to live inside. We used twigs, stones and grass to create them. I hope the bugs liked them!’ Ananya

‘Once we had finished we slotted them into pallets that we had stacked together.’ Jess

‘We also fixed up the teepee by using strong tape and sticking it back together.’ Heather

‘In Maths, we had to plan our dream trip to London. We had to plan the train journey, hotel and activities. This was to help us learn about durations and timetables.’ Beth

‘Me and Nathan booked a five and a half star hotel near London Bridge.’ Warren

‘Bella and I decided to go to the theatre to watch Matilda the musical and also chose to go to the British Museum. I hope this can come true!’ Eleanor

‘This afternoon it is our Sport’s Day! We are competing against different houses. Tune in next week for the results!’ Bruce

‘Hello everyone, this week has been fun!’ Luca Fr

‘This week we found out that we won Beat The Street, so we got 2 trophies and a £600 prize.’ Euan

‘Today we were organising our Blue Planet display to share with the school. Me, Hollie and Ben added coral to the display.’ Lexi

‘At P.E. on Monday, we took part in an athletics relay. I was running for my team, the other parts were skipping, speed bounce and hurdles.’ Heather

‘In P.E. on Friday, we used tennis skills in different activities.’ Luca Fi

‘I found P.E. really fun because we played the game Laps vs Jailers.’ Evan

‘In Outdoor Learning this week, we collected logs and brought them to the playground so that we could clean them up and sand them down. We also planted Cara’s plants.’ Lauren

‘The plants were chives, parsley and wild flowers. I really enjoyed this!’ Cara

 

‘In writing we created limerick poems, I enjoyed this and I liked my poem too.’ Harry

‘A limerick has 5 lines, the 1st, 2nd and 5th lines rhyme and the 3rd and 4th lines rhyme. This is called aabba structure.’ Eleanor

‘I really enjoyed writing these because it was a wee bit different to our normal writing.’ Lauren

 

‘This week in Maths we were learning about time and angles, I enjoyed this!’ Luca Fr

‘We also played a game were we lined up in pairs and the teacher asked us quick maths questions. Whoever got it correct would line up and continue. The winner was Luca Fi.’  Lexi

‘On Thursday, in Art we sketched a lion’s head, learning about proportions. I really liked doing this!’ Ananya

‘We were also learning about warm and cold colours. On the light side of the lion’s head we coloured red, orange and yellow. On the darker side we coloured it blues, purples and greens.’ Bella

‘For Topic, we finished off our block printing. We cut borders and mounted our art onto these. I found this fun.’ Ayyan

‘This week we were creating new school values posters and the overall winner will have their poster displayed as the new school poster for many years to come!’ Luca Fr

Week beginning 9th May 2022

‘Welcome back to the P6a blog, we had lots of fun this week!’ Beth

‘On Thursday, we had a whole day of music, art and drama. In music we were learning to play the glockenspiel. In art we learned about texture and we drew animal patterns. In drama, we played a fun game in which we had to swap places if we had the same thing as someone else e.g. 2 brothers.’ Bella

‘I liked drama the most because we also played a fun improv game.’ Molly

‘Today in HWB we were making  models of brains because we were learning about different parts of the brain.’ Leaah

‘We used different materials, such as lego or crafting materials.’ Luca Fr

‘I learned that the right hemisphere of your brain controls the left side of your body.’ Molly

‘The frontal lobe is in charge of actions and emotions. The cerebellum controls balance, movement and coordination. The parietal lobe helps with senses. The temporal lobe controls memory.’ Eleanor

‘On Wednesday we learned about cinquain poetry. It has 5 lines. The first line is 1 word about what it is, the 2nd 2 adjectives, 3rd is 3 verbs, the 4th is a phrase and the 5th something related to the first. I really enjoyed this.’ Emilia

‘I enjoyed listening to these poems.’ Beth

‘On Monday when we were doing Maths, we learned about time and I found this fun.’ Euan

‘In outdoor learning we planted flowers in the planter boxes. First we turned the old soil over and added new compost. I really enjoyed planting the flowers.’ Lauren

‘We found out the birds have eaten most of our bird feeders from last week, they were very successful.’ James

‘We also picked up any litter and tried to find logs to make a new seating area.’ Cara

‘In P.E. we were doing badminton, again I really enjoyed this.’ Sophia

‘I liked the game shuttle bucket because it was very intense and very close!’ Evan

‘P.E. was fun, I got to be a glamorous assistant and write down names for the star player list as I had injured my leg.’ Tia

‘This week 2 JRSOs (me and Charlotte) got to go to Eastwood Hall for a meeting. Loads of others JRSOs, police, NHS workers and fire officers were there teaching us about road safety.  We also got a goody bag.’ Ayyan

‘P6 were prefects for the entire week as the P7s were away, I’d really like to do this next year!’ Bruce

‘In Literacy this week, we got to find out our new books by ripping a tiny piece of wrapping paper of the books one at a time. The book I’m reading is called Shadow and it looks like a good book because it looks different to other books I’ve read.’ Harry

‘This week in outdoor learning, we made bird feeders. We scooped out the inside of an apple and put mixed seed, vege – gelatin and mixed fruit inside them. I really enjoyed this!’ Jess

‘I found this fun because my filling fell out but I managed to put it back in and hang it on a tree for the birds.’ Ayyan

 

 

‘In Maths, we have been learning about 3d shapes and we answered questions about them. We had to guess the shape from different nets.’ Lexi

   

‘On Wednesday, Ayyan spoke to us about Eid and he answered lots of questions we had about it and Ramadan. I found this interesting.’ Euan

‘I don’t celebrate Eid but it sounds like a fun holiday.’ Molly

‘Today, we were working on our Blue Planet dioramas,. In them we have to include at least 4 facts about the ocean, marine animals and a background with seaweed or coral. I found this enlightening!’ Bella

‘For my background, I covered the shoebox in blue tissue paper and started curling green circular paper for seaweed.’ Eleanor

‘This week in P.E. we did racket skills. We played some fun badminton games. I really enjoyed this.’ Luca Fr

‘I found hitting the shuttle back over the net tricky but I also found it fun at the same time.’ Lauren

‘Last but not least recently two new students (Crystal and Ananya) very excitingly joined our class! We are happy to have these new people in P6a!’ Jess

‘Over the course of this week we have been trying to bring in shoeboxes for a diorama lesson in Topic (which will be next week) stay tuned next week to see these!’ Molly

‘Today in P.E. we were working on racket and ball skills and I got Star Player alongside Sam.’ Leaah

‘There was also a game called Jail Break and we had to try and hit the shuttlecock over the net. If anyone caught it you joined jail and they became free. I won the game!’ Eleanor

‘This week we have learned block printing. I finished mine today, some will finish next week. I enjoyed this.’ Lauren

‘My foam board snapped but it still made a perfect picture.’ Warren

‘In assembly this week the JRSOs got to talk to the school as they were the first committee selected. We talked about past events and events we would like to hold.’ Bruce

‘In art with Mrs Hutchison we were drawing birds and this was quite fun. We also drew patterns.’ Euan

‘On Wednesday, I had a Pupil Council meeting. We talked about upcoming events and I spoke to the class about it. I’m really excited for these events!’ Jess

‘In writing we were trying to include things we have learned so far. We wrote an imaginative piece, most of them were inspired by pictures on the board. My story was called Around the World in Twelve Hours.’ James

‘My story was about someone on a ship going to find an island. I enjoyed it!’ Hollie

‘I enjoyed the writing lesson too!’ Sam

 

‘In outdoor learning we were doing litter picking, bark and leaf rubbing and clearing out flower beds. I really enjoyed this.’ Jess

‘I enjoyed the leaf rubbing and I’m excited to start planting in the garden.’ Cara

 

‘In topic we were talking about plastic pollution and how different plastics can ruin our ocean and the world. We made notes and using these created posters about this. Mrs Hobson said the best 3 will win a smelly sticker and a marble for their group!’ Ayyan
