Super summer sports day!

Welcome back readers to an extraordinary blog! This week’s highlight was definitely sports afternoon! We went over to Eastwood and took part in 5 fun stations.

Station 1 Football- We had to dribble then shoot!

Station 2- Space hoppers! It was really fun and you had to bounce all the way to the cone and back.

Station 3 – Relay Races! You had to run to the cone and back with the baton and pass on the next team mate.

Station  4 – Cricket. For this station you had to throw a beanbag into a hoop to score points.

Station  5- Rugby! For this station you got a rugby ball and you had to dodge players holding inflatable pillars and score a try!

Lastly, we had a running race in 2 groups and people came 1st, 2nd and 3rd and received shiny sticker medals!

“I really enjoyed the race because I won the boy’s group!” Ruaridh

“I enjoyed the space hopper section!” Olivia W

“I really enjoyed the relay station, even though I have a broken arm!” Penelope

Spectacular Spheros

Hi everyone, keep reading to find out more about our highlight of the week!

This week, we have been learning about and programming Spheros. If you don’t know what they are, they are a controllable robotic ball which can move about when you give them commands.

We used an app on the iPads,  which controlled the Spheros and our first challenge was to make a square with them and then we played a game. To control them, you select a block and this connects to the Sphero and then press start to move it. The Sphero could do 90, 180 and 270 degree turns. You could also change the speed of the Sphero!

“I loved programming them and trying to make it move around a square even though I didn’t succeed, this time!” Isla

“I like doing even though mine was moving quite quickly!” Kate

“My partner was Oscar and he immediately worked out how to make a square! I felt really happy about this!” Ruaridh

“I liked that we also played a game with them. You had to guess an animal and then you threw the Sphero and it made an animal noise!” Oscar

Football Fun Time!

Welcome back to our weekly blog readers!

Our highlight this week was a footballer coming in to coach us for a special P.E. session!

First, we warmed up with dynamic stretching and we ran from one side of the MUGA to the other. In pairs, with the ball in the middle on a cone, we had to follow instructions from Craig.

E.g. Run on the spot, high knees, go left and right, forward and back, change (jump half way round)

When he said “Go!” we had to get the ball first by using our feet! We also kept a score to see who won.

“I found it really joyful because we were having so much fun and I liked the competition with my partner!” Elay

“It was very fun because I loved the game!” Jovie

“I enjoyed it a lot because I won 3 times in a row!” Maryam

Crazy Compass Directions! :)

Hello readers and welcome back to our blog!

This week,  we have been learning about directions and compass points. The compass 4 main compass points are North, East, South, West. You could say, Never Eat Shredded Wheat  to help you remember this. We also made some of our own…

Never Eats Soggy Worms!

Never Eats Shrek’s Wellies!

On Friday, we went into the playground to look at the big compass painted on the ground. In pairs, we had to help each other navigate with our eyes closed by giving instructions, using the compass point.

e.g. “Face West, forward 2 steps!”

“Its was fun to tell people what to do!” Ismail

“I liked this activity a lot because on the way back I walked 99 steps, following instructions back to class!” Harry

“I has lots of fun. It was funny when I was told to walk 100 steps forward!” Elay

Bye for now readers!

Perfect Persuasive Writing

Welcome back readers!

This week, we have been learning about persuasive writing, which started off with a debate about whether junk food should be made illegal.

We learned the acronym R.O.E.

R = rhetorical questions

0 = opinions

E = emotive language

In pairs we read an advert and we highlighted elements of R.O.E. to see if it was persuading us.

Next, in groups we had our own statements to stick on large pieces of paper. We had to come up with ideas to support these statements using R.O.E.

Such as…

  1. Schools should have 1 week off a month instead of longer holidays.
  2. School books should be replaced with tablets.
  3. Children should be paid to do chores.
  4. Break time should be doubled in time.
  5. Children should be able to vote as soon as they reach high school.

“I enjoyed coming up fun ideas to support my statement.” Ryan

“I agreed with my statement about break time being longer.” Olivia W

“I liked trying to persuade the class that junk food should be illegal!” Harry

Bye for now!

Spectacular Symmetry and Show Prep

Hello again readers, another busy week in P4a!

Read on to find out about our highlights.

This week in maths, we have been learning about different types symmetry and symmetry in the real world. We watched a video with people making symmetrical patterns outside. We also looked at pictures of the Giant’s Causeway, which has naturally occurring hexagonal pillars made of basalt!

We have also been doing lots of Spring Show prep such as decorating our daffodil pots for charity! We used paint pens for these and think they look great!

“I enjoyed decorating my plant pot!” Elay

“I loved decorating my plant, even though the pen exploded a bit!” Ruaridh

Amazing haikus and a sneak peek into our showcase!

Hello again reader, we have been busy this week!

Read on to find out more 🙂

We have been working hard on poetry and are looking forward to sharing some of it at our Spring Showcase. For one of these lessons we learned about haikus! A haiku is a Japanese poem which has a specific structure, often describing nature.

“We had to write only 3 lines. The first with 5 syllables, the 2nd with 7 and the last one with 5 syllables again.” Ryan

“I loved writing the haikus and completed 5 today!” Isla

“Today Ryan and I spoke to the whole school at assembly and taught everyone about an Iranian celebration, called Nowruz. This is Iranian New Year. I felt a bit nervous but also excited!” Elay

Also this week, we have been practising our showcase and it’s going really well. We can’t wait to see you at it soon!

Marie Curie – Marvellous Curiosity

Welcome back readers!

Recently, we have been learning about Marie Curie, the famous scientist from Poland. She discovered 2 elements called radium and polonium that changed the world! This is even more amazing because when she was alive, women were not allowed to go to university!

We made notes about Maire Curie and used these to design posters. We will share more about her, during our Spring Show. Stay tuned for details and check out some lovely photos below! 🙂

“I loved learning about Marie Curie and am SO excited for our Spring Show!” Isla

“Marie Curie was very fun to learn about!” James

Our splendid burns supper!

Hi readers,

Recently we have been learning how to write instructions and have been making some tasty recipes. We made empire biscuits for our Scotland topic because the shortbread and the jam are Scottish.

We also went to the hall and made vegetarian haggis pastry parcels, with Slyvia our head cook! We got to shape the pastry ourselves and decide how much haggis to put inside.

The haggis was for our Burns Supper, which we had later in the day. First we decorated the hall, then we had our food, some people recited poetry, we sang 3 craws and then went into the hall for a ceilidh! We learned the Canadian Barn and had lots of fun!

Check out some pictures below! 🙂

“I enjoyed my empire biscuit. I think it had the right amount of jam it it!” Hugo

“I showed the class some Highland dancing, it was the first step of the Sword dance!” Jura

“I loved doing the ceilidh dancing!” Jovie
