Perfect Persuasive Writing

Welcome back readers!

This week, we have been learning about persuasive writing, which started off with a debate about whether junk food should be made illegal.

We learned the acronym R.O.E.

R = rhetorical questions

0 = opinions

E = emotive language

In pairs we read an advert and we highlighted elements of R.O.E. to see if it was persuading us.

Next, in groups we had our own statements to stick on large pieces of paper. We had to come up with ideas to support these statements using R.O.E.

Such as…

  1. Schools should have 1 week off a month instead of longer holidays.
  2. School books should be replaced with tablets.
  3. Children should be paid to do chores.
  4. Break time should be doubled in time.
  5. Children should be able to vote as soon as they reach high school.

“I enjoyed coming up fun ideas to support my statement.” Ryan

“I agreed with my statement about break time being longer.” Olivia W

“I liked trying to persuade the class that junk food should be illegal!” Harry

Bye for now!
