Week Beginning 9.10.23

Hello parents/carers

P4/5 have had another busy week of learning.

We have started our new Science topic “Powering the Future” and our first lesson was about how to power a wind turbine. We created gears and counted their rotations and learned that the faster they go the faster the wind turbines will too.

We painted our clay models of the Kelpies and they will be coming home soon.  We hope you love them as much as we do!

In maths we created Marble Runs and used our problem solving skills and work collaboratively with one another to create excellent runs.

We are also taking part in a programme call Learning About Forests through Keep Scotland Beautiful. We explored our woodlands and thought of  various ways that we can connect with nature and improve our knowledge of forest based ecosystems.   We are in the process of creating an action plan for the year ahead.

We finished this week with a class treat. Another wonderful week of learning!

Have a wonderful break.

Week beginning 2.10.23

Hello everyone

We have enjoyed a jam packed week this week in P4/5.

In P.E we began our circuit training . We hope to see out fitness levels increase in the next few weeks. We will record our results. We also learned to take our pulse.

For Maths Week Scotland we created a moving vehicle using K’Nex and we measured the distance that it travelled.

“It was fun but a hard task.” (Harry)

“Maths Week Scotland re-tweeted our activity.” (Gurleen)

“We had to use engineering skills.”(Joshua)

We also completed research on Scottish Inventors. We used the chrome books and worked in small groups to find relevant information. We worked well together and even presented out facts to the rest of the class.  We spoke confidently to our peers when it was our turn to talk and  and we were also a wonderful audience, showing our great listening skills.

“It was fun finding out facts about Scottish Inventors”. (Aria)

“Our group found out about Alexander Fleming – it was interesting”. (Oscar).

We re-created the famous Scottish  sculpture  – The Kelpies using clay. We have still to complete these as we plan to paint them.  look out for them coming home soon!

“It was difficult to get the shape right but I got there in the end”( Scarlett)

“We all helped one another to use the clay and get the shape right” (Farouk)

This week has been great !” (Finlay)

Phew! That was a lot! We need a sleep!

We also started our new Science topic – we will share some photos with you  soon.

Have a fabulous weekend
