Blog 16th December

We have had a busy couple of weeks, enjoying lots of Christmassy activities. Today was our Christmas party and we enjoyed lots of dancing fun and games. You will see in the pictures below.

We have been learning about how Christmas is celebrated in France. We compared the celebrations in France to those in Scotland and thought about what was the same and what was different. We showed our learning using a Venn Diagram.

We learnt about why Christians celebrate Christmas by hearing the story of the birth of Jesus. We then worked in groups to create a puppet show of the nativity story. We showed our collaborating skills by sharing our ideas, listening to others ideas and finding a solution.

We also enjoyed watching an old John Lewis advert about a snowman who goes on a journey. We used what we have been learning about recount writing to write our own version of the snowman’s story.

In Maths we have done some Christmas themed problem solving. We used the strategy of ordered thinking to solve the problem of the elves clothing.

In numeracy we have been learning about hundreds, tens and units. We have been practising our place value by reading numbers correctly and putting numbers in order. We have also been learning about weight. We have been finding and weighing objects that weigh about 1kg and about 500g.

In literacy we have been learning about the past tense and we have been practising our new sounds ch for k and o__e.

In our Writing we started a new type of writing called recount. We wrote about a fun experience we have had. Mrs Lazonby really enjoyed hearing about all the fun things we have done.

We loved making our Christmas craft for the Christmas Fair, but we will keep it a surprise for today. We used red, green and white paint, to create something very cute and cheeky.
