Sport, Music and More!

We have had a busy week in P3a! We started off the week trying our best and working really hard on our standardised test.

In PE, we are continuing to work on our fitness and we enjoyed creating our own fitness circuits and then testing them out. Some were very very hard and worked all our muscles!!

We have been really enjoying our topic ‘The History of Sport” and we have looked at the History of the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and we got the iPads to research the history of our own chosen sports and found out lots of fun facts about different sports.

We have been enjoying our music lessons with Mrs Lyall and this week we explored a new rhythm and enjoyed playing different games.

We have also been discussing growth and fixed mindsets this week and we looked at the different things we can say and do to help us develop a growth mindset.

PE, Dots and More!

In PE, we are working on developing our fitness and we tested how many of each exercise we can do in one minute and will check our scores at the end of our fitness block to see if our scores have improved.

“We had to count how many our partner did or how long they held each exercise.”

“It was fun!”

In PE, we finishing of our block of Gymnastics and this week we tried out Sports Acro and we had to work with a partner to create different balances.

“You make different shapes and have to work hard to hold them.”

We read ‘The Dot’ by Peter H.Reynolds and we explored how Vashti doesn’t show resilience but she makes a mark and sees how it goes. So we  created beautiful artwork from our own dots.

Technical Difficulties!

Apologies,  its has not been my week with technology and we have had some technical difficulty with our photos this week!! I am hoping to have it solved and the  blog up on Monday!

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Regan 🙂

Blog 9th January 2026

This week we have been learning about how animals get their food. We read a book about predators to help us find out how different animals hunt. To show our learning we made a top trumps predators game.

We were looking at plurals in grammar. A plural is when there is more than one thing and to make a word a plural we put an s on the end.

In numeracy we have been learning about 3D shapes.  We named some 3d shapes and we found the different 2D shapes that make up the faces of the 3D shapes. We counted edges and vertices to describe the properties of different 3D shapes.

In writing we wrote about our Christmas holidays and we talked with our shoulder partners about our 3 highlights and 1 low-light to help us remember all that we got up to in the holidays.

We have had a busy couple of weeks, enjoying lots of Christmassy activities. Today was our Christmas party and we enjoyed lots of dancing fun and games. You will see in the pictures below.

We have been learning about how Christmas is celebrated in France. We compared the celebrations in France to those in Scotland and thought about what was the same and what was different. We showed our learning using a Venn Diagram.

We learnt about why Christians celebrate Christmas by hearing the story of the birth of Jesus. We then worked in groups to create a puppet show of the nativity story. We showed our collaborating skills by sharing our ideas, listening to others ideas and finding a solution.

We also enjoyed watching an old John Lewis advert about a snowman who goes on a journey. We used what we have been learning about recount writing to write our own version of the snowman’s story.

In Maths we have done some Christmas themed problem solving. We used the strategy of ordered thinking to solve the problem of the elves clothing.

In numeracy we have been learning about hundreds, tens and units. We have been practising our place value by reading numbers correctly and putting numbers in order. We have also been learning about weight. We have been finding and weighing objects that weigh about 1kg and about 500g.

In literacy we have been learning about the past tense and we have been practising our new sounds ch for k and o__e.

In our Writing we started a new type of writing called recount. We wrote about a fun experience we have had. Mrs Lazonby really enjoyed hearing about all the fun things we have done.

We loved making our Christmas craft for the Christmas Fair, but we will keep it a surprise for today. We used red, green and white paint, to create something very cute and cheeky.

We have been learning about subtracting with exchange and also moving onto thinking about Place Value using hundreds, tens and units. Some of us have been looking at fractions and finding halves and quarters.

In French we have been learning the names of some animals. We made some fantastic posters to show the pets we would like to have, using our new french vocabulary. We also revised our numbers in French with various games.

We had lost our paper recycling bin and we were very happy to get a new one so we can keep recycling our paper.

This week we wrote about how to play Riverbank – which is our favourite game in PE.

With Mrs Dougal we have been learning about Capelrig House. It is a Georgian house that is symmetrical.

In literacy we have been learning about nouns. We know that people, places and things are all nouns. We were writing about how to make your own scratch art.  We used bossy verbs to make our instructions clear.

In numeracy we have been learning subtraction with exchange. We used tens and units to help us see how borrow a ten and exchange it into units. We are definitely getting the hang of this.

We really enjoyed having our grown ups in to visit us this week. We moved between different stations all about food chains. Our favourites were making the houses for animals and creating a superhero animal.

This week in numeracy we have been learning about measuring length. We had lots of fun using old methods to measure like paces and cubits. We then used metre sticks and rulers to estimate and measure different objects in the classroom in metres and centimetres.

In literacy we wrote instructions on how to make a jam sandwich. Although,we all laughed when Mrs Lazonby dropped the jam sandwich on the floor! We remembered to include key features like a title, a list of what is needed, instructions in order and different time openers.

We have been learning about food chains in different habitats this week. We created our own ocean food chains,  remembering to start with a producer and end with and predator. We also looked at the woodland habitat and created food chain pyramids to show which animals are carnivores, omnivores and herbivores.

This week in numeracy we have been looking at the ‘language of subtraction’. We can recognise the key words that tell us to subtract and use different strategies to solve the calculation.

As part of our living things topic we looked at food chains. We started by talking about what different animals we know eat. We learnt that food chains are a way of showing how different plants and animals depend on each other for survival. We know that all food chains start with energy from the sun.

For RME we are starting to look at the parables of Jesus. We told the story of the prodigal son together with the help of some very good actors! We talked about the adjectives we could use to describe the different characters in the story.

In literacy we are learning about instructions. We looked at lots of different examples of instructions like games, recipes and diy manuals. This helped us work out what we need to include in our writing for next week.
