Sports Week – Taekwondo.

To finish of our incredible martial arts day, we still had energy left to experience the excitement of Korean martial art Taekwondo. This is a mixture of head-height kicks, spinning kicks, fast kicking techniques that are aimed with super precision and speed and got to try out our high kicks with our partners using hand pads and also attempted to break the slates with our feet.

Sports Week – Karate

After Judo, we were really looking forward to trying Karate. Our instructor Terry was so funny and taught us that this sport was only to be used in self defence. We did not realise how important our balance and core strength is to be able to aim accurately and we learned how to protect our head and body by just using our stability and arms. Lots of us were very inspired to try this sport in the future!

Sports Week – Judo

Wednesday of Sports Week was packed full of martial arts and and we started with a taster session of Judo. This began with a warm-up and then our instructor Jack explained the ethos and general rules of the sport. We loved practicing different types of holds on the mats and demonstrating these to our classmates too.

Sports Week – Hockey.

We were so excited going to Eastwood High to have our introduction to hockey skills session with Mrs Fry, who has played hockey at a higher level internationally. We learned how to grip the stick correctly and move the ball with small, controlled movements using our bodies to manoeuvre it in the right direction. After practicing this, we worked with our partners to pass to one another and then shoot for goal.

Sports Week – Dance

We were very lucky to have Mrs McLaughlin come to teach us how to use our bodies to create a sequence of movements to music. First, we had to understand the importance of warming up our muscles, then we practiced making a variety of shapes and poses.

Carefully, we pieced each part we had practiced together to make a short, contemporary dance to music. This was very energetic and a really fun experience, we even had time to ask some interesting questions about dance at the end.

Sports Week – Orienteering.

We worked in collaborative groups with Mrs Lamont to learn the basic concepts behind Orienteering. When we were confident in understanding the instructions and following the map, we were able to work in relay with our partners to collect and re-create an image from memory using the objects we had to retrieve. As you can see, we were focused and worked very hard to achieve this, quite impressive for our for our first attempt!

Health Week – Gymnastics.

We started off Crookfur’s Health Week by taking part in a gymnastics taster session. It was a wonderful experience for us to be instructed by professional gymnasts and it was a super beginning to an exciting week of activities ahead.

Our Jubilee Celebration.

What an amazing day we had learning about Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 year reign. Our Jubilee picnic was so much fun and we loved being able to chat and play with our friends in P2 as well as the rest of the school. These are special memories we will be able to remember in years to come!

British Science Week: Stretchy Slime Experiment.

Science can be so much fun and we really like to have fun with our learning in P2C. We could not resist the chance to carry out an experiment using key active ingredients to investigate how these reacted together and to aim for the end result of a slimy material that would be moist enough to stretch.

We used our measuring skills this time in centimetres, to make and then test the slime by measuring it before stretching, during and at breaking point. After this, we made a comparison to stretch elastic bands and measured those in centimetres too. Carefully following instructions and processes, observing reactions along the way and discussing successful and unsuccessful outcomes are all important enquiry skills.

The children has a fantastic time participating in this lesson and we will continue to make Science and STEAM subjects a key focus of our learning.
