Week Beginning 22.04.24

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our Mini Nature Protector Project!

This term, P2A are learning how to look after plants and animals. The last two weeks I have been very impressed with their problem solving and retention of how plants grow. Since the children have learnt the process of germination, can explain the process of how plants grow and what they need to survive, we have been growing our own sun flower seeds in class.

The children love nurturing their seeds and observing the growth daily. They  can apply their knowledge of germination to explain what stage their seed is at and it is all very exciting!

This week we are experimenting what liquid seeds need to grow. The children planted cat grass which will stay hydrated with water, where they will record and observe how tall it grows. We have also included cat grass that will be hydrated with vinegar, energy juice and lemon juice. Their thoughts and explanations were fantastic on whether they think the certain liquid will help the plant grow.

Have a lovely weekend everyone ☺️

Hi everyone!

This week in woodland we went on a mini local area walk. The children used their discussion skills to explain why certain objects are located where they are. They were very good at creating explanations as to why grit bins, crossings, post boxes, street lights and football pitches were positioned where they were!

We then adventured the woodlands where children used their math skills of symmetry to create their own nature symmetry art. We also discovered very interesting types of leaves! Enjoy looking through our woodland experience.

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Week Beginning 4.3.24

Hi everyone!

We have had a very busy week. We have started our local area topic where the children were curious to learn about different houses. I am so impressed by the knowledge that has been retained! The children have been able to say ‘Yes Success!’ to identifying materials used to build houses, identify house types, create a plan to build their own house using the appropriate materials and then use it to build their house.

We were in the woodlands and were allocated different houses such as bungalow, flat, semi-detached and detached and their imagination was fantastic!

We then also built our own houses. We had the personalisation and choice of choosing which materials to used and identified what they represented! (Personal favourite was marshmallows for insulation)

Check us out practicing our forward rolls off benches in P.E!

Thank you for a lovely week P2A and have a great weekend! 🙂

Hi everyone,

We have had a lovely week. This week in outdoor P.E we were focussing on possession games. We were ‘following the leader’ and creating different movements to follow. Some of us got very creative with hopping, crab walks and skipping!

We also played a version of ‘piggy in the middle’ where we split into 2 circles and developed our passing, intercepting and catching. We had so much fun with this!

Here are some of our views for the week!

Penelope – I liked the comprehension the best in DLL this week

Ryan – I really loved subtraction with place value counters

Talhah – I liked reading my new book ‘The Pirates’. I read it super fast

Eva – I liked talking during circle time about friendships and creating my storyboard on the ‘Katie and the Mona Lisa’ book

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Week Beginning 19.2.24

Hi Everyone,

This week we braved the rain and went out into the woodlands. We were very excited to play in the rain with muddy puddles. The children used their imagination to create bridges over different puddles and had a lovely time exploring their world in the rain.

We also used our data handling skills by using tally marks to count different things we could see in the woodland!

Thank you for a lovely week P2A and enjoy your weekend 🙂

Week Beginning 14.2.24

Hi everyone!

It was so lovely to catch up with everyone and hear about your long weekends! Sounds like we all got up to some very exciting activities and play dates.

This week we got to celebrate Valentine’s Day which allowed us to reflect on who we are thankful for in our lives. We then designed different cards for our special people at home or in school!

We also started tooth brushing! Everyone was very good at being strict on which toothbrush is which and we all had a good giggle brushing our teeth in the classroom.

Thank you for a lovely week P2A and see you on Monday 🙂

Week Beginning 29.01.24

Hi everyone!

Another lovely week with P2A. This week in writing with Miss McLemon we were focussing on creating instructions for washing our hands. We were very good at ensuring to have time openers in each step of the instructions. We also included verbs in each step. All children were very successful in creating a logical order for washing their hands and were very engaged throughout!

In numeracy, we have begun to investigate place value counters! The children were very successful in placing the correct counters in the tens and units columns. We then investigated further to how we could add numbers together with the counters. The children challenged themselves by using their problem solving to figure out exchanging the units into ten counters.  They all really enjoyed using the counters and other class mates are keen to explore next week!

Thank you for a great week and enjoy the weekend! 🙂

Week Beginning 22.1.24

Hello everyone!

This week in numeracy we were learning a range of skills. Some groups were learning place value and really enjoyed applying their knowledge to create numbers in different ways! The pupils had to roll a dice to create the number by placing one in the tens column and the other in the units. They then applied their knowledge to create the number in four different ways!

Some of us were also investigating counting beads for the first time to aid with subtraction. This is now a helpful resource children can choose to use during numeracy!

We also were learning about the importance of clans in Scotland. The children were able to say ‘Yes Success!’ when displaying their knowledge of clans during drama. Children created a short story of presenting their clan name, the name of their chief and what the clans values were.

We then moved onto creating our very own clan tag! Children discussed the importance of a clans tartan (one way to identify a clan) and created their very own! They also worked very hard on designing their own clan tag, where they had to create a name and draw a picture of what they value the most. We had lots of creative ideas for names ranging from Scottish cities, P2A and surnames!

We are all very excited to make our completed clan tags with the tartan backdrop!

Thank you for a great week P2A. Enjoy the weekend and see you all on Monday 🙂

Week Beginning 8.1.24

Welcome back!

It was so lovely to see everyone after the holidays. I am very impressed with how quickly we have jumped back into school mode! It has been lovely hearing about all the adventures and different activities we were up to during the holidays. It sounds like a lovely time for everyone.

This week, we focussed on what our favourite memories of 2023 were. The children were excellent at reflecting back on the year they had and choosing their favourite parts! A couple even had too much to choose from!

In P.E we decided to play a team building game and learnt how to play rounders. We had lots of fun running around keeping ourselves warm in the winter cold.

In science, we were learning about atoms, solids and liquids. The children discovered that everything is made up of atoms, therefore, they challenged themselves to make a whole class Scotland flag as it is related to our topic! I was very impressed.

The children were very good at sorting different objects into the categories of either liquid or solid. To finish off the lesson, we created different pictures made up of atoms. The task was to draw a picture and use atoms (small circles/dots) to colour it in. I loved the creativity of pupils using their hand for their drawing as they were amazed that they were also made up of atoms.

Thank you for a great week Primary 2A, have a lovely weekend 🙂
