Outdoor Learning

P1 Outdoor Learning Adventures

This term, Primary 1 have loved spending time learning in our outdoor classroom and garden. Outdoor learning has given the children wonderful opportunities to explore, investigate, create and play while developing important skills across the curriculum.

As part of our topic on living things, the children have been discovering the natural world around them. We explored our outdoor area looking for plants, insects and mini beasts, learning about where living things live and what they need to survive. In these pictures we went on a scavenger hunt to see if we could find any living and non living things in our environment.

We also went on a scavenger hunt to find pictures of the four things we will need for a plant to grow.

Throughout the past few weeks we have explored and taken part in a variety of experiences.

  • In the mud kitchen, the children worked together to create delicious muddy recipes and engage in imaginative play.
  • At the sand area, the children experimented with building and digging for treasures.
  • Our outdoor painting area inspired some beautiful artwork based on nature and the changing seasons.
  • The stage area has also been a favourite spot, where the children have enjoyed singing songs, acting out stories and performing for their friends.

Outdoor learning continues to be a very special part of our week in P1. We can’t wait to enjoy more fun times learning in this amazing space.
