Scotland!

We have had another busy week in P1C!

We are continuing to learn about Scotland and this week we looked at famous Scottish Landmarks and their features. We decided to create them in the construction area and we created landmarks like Edinburgh Castle, The Kelpies and Loch Ness.

“I made a famous Scottish castle!”

“We made Scottish landmarks, I made Loch Ness with Nessie in it!”

We also had great fun learning about the different types of Scottish Dance. We worked in pairs to learn some different ceilidh dances, we tried a Canadian Barn dance and Gay Gordons. We especially loved the parts were you got to spin around with you partner.

“I loved it!”

“It was fun when you spun around with your partner.”

We also learnt how to preform a highland fling!

This week we have also looked at the importance of tartan, we know that tartan is special in Scotland and that each clan and family have their own tartan. We created our own tartan using cars to help us create the lines.

We used the cars to help us make the tartan, the car made the lines and we choose different colours to create it.”

“I made a colourful tartan.”

Busy at Work in P1C!

We have had a busy two weeks in P1C and hope everyone had a lovely holiday.

In Numeracy and Maths, we have been working hard to use concrete materials to help us solve different addition calculations. We have also been using numicon to help us explore number bonds for  numbers 8, 9 and 10.

“When you add it gets bigger”.

“We put two bits of numicon on top of 9 to see how we can make 9.”

We are continuing to explore money and we had great fun making our coin towers!

“The cups had different amounts on them and you had to look at the coin and try match it to the number.”

We have been developing our racket skills with Mrs Lamont. We have been working hard to pass the bean bags to each other without them falling off our racket. We had to try and do this 10 times without dropping it, which was much harder than we thought!

“We had to try and flip the bean bag like a pancake and keep it on.”

“We had to try and flip it to our partner and they had to throw it back.”

We are continuing to enjoy our topic which is Scotland and this week we drew what we think the Loch Ness Monster looks like and discussed the Scottish flag and then decided to design our own Scottish Flags.

“We made our very own Scottish flag and it was really fun doing it! You could do stripes or diagonal whatever you wanted”.

“We could design it however we wanted”.

“We designed Scotland flags because that is the country we live in!”

Last week, we really enjoyed a visit from our Digital leaders who talked to us about keeping safe online. We also enjoyed learning about Children’s Mental Health week. We discussed what we can do to help make ourselves feel better if we aren’t feeling calm or happy.

“We need to try and keep our brain healthy to keep us healthy”.

“The Digital Leaders taught us not to click on buttons that don’t look safe.”
