Numeracy and Maths – Maths Week Scotland

This week we have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland. The theme for this was Maths in Motion. We have been discussing this each day and enjoyed watching the teachers compete with each other in the step count challenge.

Each day we completed some exercises to the beat of our counting. We managed to count all the way to 100.

We were moving and counting.

We were exercising and counting to 100.

Without even realising we were using Maths to help the cars move faster and slower in the Construction Area. This prompted a discussion and linked in with the learning we have been completing with Miss Hutchison.

I was trying to zoom the cars over some more cars and then they were going up and down over the bumps. It landed on it’s wheels and tyres.

I was jumping the cars and my car goes down the ramp and then my car jumped over four cars.

Some slowed down and some didn’t.

The cars go faster if the ramp is higher and go slow if the ramp is lower.

The cars went super fast.

The car went up in the air over some cars.

We have been thinking about Position and Direction and how we can use our knowledge to move the Bee-Bots around the spots on our carpet. We had to give the Bee-Bot a clear set of instructions and think about the way we wanted the Bee-Bot to turn.

We were thinking about our position and our direction.

My left hand makes the letter ‘L’ to help me remember.

We had to press the right buttons and then ask it to go.

We had to give Bee-Bot a clear set of instructions.

The cross button told Bee-Bot to forget.

Alongside Maths Week Scotland we have been thinking about number. We have been practising our number formation and also using our knowledge of numbers to find the missing number. We have to think about the number before and after the missing number to help us do this.
