EWHCF Class of 2024

Learning in P.1a this week

We have been so excited this week to learn about Space! We couldn’t believe it when our class got a phone call from the office on Monday telling us there was a mysterious delivery for us to collect from the office.  It was a letter from Sporkle, an alien from outside the Solar system, asking us to share information about ourselves,  the sun, moon, stars and planets.  We thought it would be a good idea to make Sporkle a book with lots of information, and we’ve started our book!

Ollie and Omar, our stars of the week, collected the special delivery from the office and read out the letter!

We made a mindmap of questions we’d like to know the answers to all about Space.

Abu-Huraira wanted to learn what the moon was made of.  We read books, watched a text and found information. We know the moon can look different shapes in the sky but it’s always a sphere.

Ava wanted to learn about gravity. We discovered that there is gravity on the moon but not as much as on Earth which is why astronauts can seem to float! We set up a test to learn about forces. We dropped objects from our shoulder height and noted if they fell quickly, fell slowly or bounced. We made predictions and checked our findings!

We have been creative in the play areas too. We designed our own collage planets and gave them a name.

We  read Space books and recorded facts in our talking tins.

We have also enjoyed reading a fiction text together about an alien visiting us. We made book covers and discussed ideas for what might happen if an alien landed in our garden on a spaceship.  We are looking forward to writing this story and making our own own fiction alien book.
