Our Class Assembly

Primary 1a were delighted to perform our assembly ‘A day in the life of Primary 1’ to the school and our parents and carers today!

We sang a French song, recited a number rhyme which helps us remember our number bonds to 10, sang some Jolly Phonics songs and showed some of our Topic work.  We talked about what we are proud of learning and achieving in Primary 1 and finished with a song to celebrate our learning, showing some cool dance moves! What a fantastic performance!

World Book Week

For World Book Week we created story boxes showing the setting and characters from some of our favourite books, as a homework activity.

The dioramas created were amazing! The children worked so hard and put so much detail into their models.

We showed our models to the class and they asked us questions about them.

Well done Jamie for your ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ story box!

Designing and Creating Toys

As part of our Toys topic we designed and made toys from junk.

Some of us chose to work independently while others chose to work in a group. We had to problem solve and find ways to attach different parts. We had great fun!

Toys Workshop

We also learned a lot about toys from the past from our Toys Workshop. We discussed what makes a toy ‘old’ and got the opportunity to investigate and play with toys from the past.  We discussed how they compare to modern toys.

Other learning…

In Maths we have been learning the story of 8.

We know that spiders have 8 legs but we were rearranging their legs using playdoh for the spider’s body and lolly sticks for the legs to make different stories.

Zara has been working on her adding skills.

Abu and Zara can count and order numbers to 20!

Ben and Harley are playing a number bonds matching game.

We like practising our number bonds through games and activities.

Olivia can use coins to buy toys in our toy shop.

In Literacy because of the weather recently we thought we would read about snow!

Well done Shreya you used different strategies to work out unfamiliar words!

Zunairah matched up different phonemes and words on the lego bricks.

We enjoy reading stories together, helping each other with tricky common words, sounding out words and using clues in the text to help us. This week we read about an inventor who created something amazing with his magic box.

Then we wrote our own stories about what we might create with a magic box. We had to think what we would need to put into the box to make our amazing creations.

When we are playing we often choose to create our own written stories and practise writing our letters correctly.

Well done Primary 1a! Fantastic work!
