Students specialise in either DESIGN or EXPRESSIVE and produce an SQA unit and a single Portfolio based on a design or expressive theme of their choice. The project choice is broad at AH. Pupils have in the past studied: Jewellery; Costume; Ceramics; Textiles; Lighting; and Architecture for Design, and Sculpture; Figurative art; Portraits; and Landscape for Expressive portfolios.

Pupils complete a written essay based on the work of key influential artists/designers relevant to their theme.
