DESIGN – MUFFIN PACKAGING DESIGN (cross-curricular project involving Home Economics and Technical departments).
Pupils produce a graphic design outcome having looked at the work of a range of designers and visual artists.
EXPRESSIVE – SEASIDE UNIT
Throughout this topic students develop a wide range of drawing and media handling skills. Based on their experiences and preferences, pupils choose the format of their own final outcome.
ART & DESIGN STUDIES – WATER
Students select, discuss and evaluate the work of expressive artist(s) from a varied range of influential works. This unit links with their practical work and develops written and verbal literacy skills.

DESIGN – MULTICULTURAL CERAMICS DESIGN (cross-curricular project involving Drama and Music)
Pupils explore the medium of clay and develop their 3D skills and manual dexterity having learned about a world culture.
EXPRESSIVE – PORTRAITS
Students learn correct proportion and further develop their media handling skills. Pupils choose how they wish to produce their outcome for this unit.
ART & DESIGN STUDIES – PORTRAITS
Students select, discuss and evaluate the work of expressive artist(s) from a varied range of influential works. Again, this links to their practical work, emphasises real life links and explores Health & Wellbeing as well as Literacy skills.

S3
The S3 course is designed to develop skills and prepare students for progression into S4 certificate classes.
DESIGN – Pupils create their own design briefs, choose themes and complete research using ICT. They experiment with a range of design techniques.
EXPRESSIVE – Pupils choose areas of interest, i.e. Portrait or Still Life. They then research and produce investigatory drawings in response to a chosen theme, e.g. facial expressions, or my hobbies.
ART & DESIGN STUDIES – Pupils learn about an array of art and design from key movements including Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Constructivism and Contemporary. From this range they choose works and artists to continue studying in S4. Pupils at this level continue to develop their literacy skills.
