The Nursery Day

There are 2 nursery placement options which run each day. These are:

3 days 8am – 6pm

5 days 9am – 3pm

You will be allocated one of these during enrolment.

Each day the nursery will follow a rhythm which will include:

Daily routine

Welcome : children are welcomed at the door by a member of nursery staff, then go into the cloak room to put away their belongings. All children wash their hands and put on indoor shoes , they are now ready for the day.

Play and Explore: children can choose where to play in the nursery and what resources they would like to use at that time. They will also have a chat with nursery staff and check in with how they are feeling.

Snack: We have a morning snack which is open for an hour to allow children to choose when they come for snack, all children are made aware snack is open and encouraged to come throughout this time. Snack is supported by a member of staff and is a great opportunity for a chat with friends and members of the nursery team.

Play and Explore: Children continue to explore the nursery setting and can choose to play in either the inside or outside play areas. We feel it is important that children have autonomy in their play and are developing several skills including independence and responsibility when making such decisions. Children are also encouraged to get into waterproof clothing independently, although there is always a member of staff to help when needed.

Lunch: Children are all supported to tidy up the playroom and outdoor space to get ready for lunch. They will have time together in small groups or as a whole nursery to sing, read a story or play a game together while everyone gets their hands washed and lunch is ready. Lunch is a social activity and they sit together with staff to enjoy a meal together talk about their day so far and what they have planned for after lunch.

Play and Explore: After lunch it is back to playing and learning. I bet you can tell now why the children come home exhausted from nursery. It is a busy and exciting day. Having ownership of their play allows children to take responsibility for their learning and gives the staff the opportunity to extend their knowledge as they are fully engaged and invested in the experience. Learning occurs as the child experiences things for themselves.

Home Time : Some children will leave at 3, for those children they will come together and collect their belongings and enjoy a story in preparation for going home. Those who do not leave will continue to play and enjoy the nursery.

Snack Time: For our children who stay with us, they will have the opportunity to have an afternoon snack if they would like, again this is optional and open for children to come to when they are ready and is always supported by a member of staff.

Play and Explore: After their afternoon snack children will continue playing in both the indoor and outdoor areas until it is time for them to go home.
