Starting to Settle at Nursery

We would aim for your child to settle over the course of a few days gradually increasing the amount of time they spend in the nursery.  An initial visit of an hour then possibly increasing to over lunch time then onto a full day. The most important element to this is that this is a joint decision between the nursery and parents. We want to work together with families to make the settling period a positive and enjoyable experience.

On your child’s first settling day we suggest they visit for an hour. This gives them the opportunity to  explore the  nursery playroom and be supported to investigate the different areas in the room. They will be met at the door by a member of nursery staff and shown where to keep their bag and coat and where the toilets are.  They will also get to meet the other children in the nursery and the staff who they will be working with. After the first session your child’s key worker will discuss with you the next steps for you child.

It is important to us that each child’s settling experience is tailored to their individual needs and will go at a pace that is right and comfortable for your child.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child settling please speak to their key worker or another member of the nursery staff and we can support you with this.

The children are all provided with a healthy snack and a hot lunch, you are welcome to provide a packed lunch if this is something you think your child would prefer. We will always offer a hot lunch to all children.

Your child will also need to come with a bag containing a FULL change of clothes, wellington boots and waterproof clothing for outdoor play. Please ensure all clothing is named.
