The children have been learning about different types of materials such as plastic, metal and wood. We went out to collect different materials in our school grounds. We found lots of different things and then sorted them into our three categories.

Maths Week
Maths Week was so much fun! We have all really enjoyed taking part in many different types of activities. The children chose to create a pictogram of their favourite planet. We visited the village shop and paid for juice and biscuits by counting out our 1 pences. We counted these on our own! We baked chocolate chip shortbread. We weighed out all our ingredients using digital scales. It was very messy ….. but our biscuits were delicious. We went out into the village armed with the school tablet so we could photograph Maths wherever we found it. We found door numbers, patterns on buildings and gates and numbers on road signs. It was lovely to share our learning with mums and dads (and grandpas) during our Outdoor Maths morning.
Outdoor Learning-Technology
Primary 1 to 3 were tasked with designing “Smallworlds” for our playground. A small world is a play area built in a tyre with a theme for example Dinosaurs. The small worlds will be kept in the playground for the children to play with. They did a great job with the design brief and afterwards had more fun drawing story stones and acting out different plays!
Outdoor PE
PE was outdoor this afternoon! We ran, climbed, balanced and played with balls. Lots of activity and lots of fun!
Making Patterns
We have been pattern crazy this week in Primary 1. We have been finding them in the world around us, making repeating patterns with two and three colours and creating symmetrical patterns too. We have also been learning to continue patterns with shapes.
Dojo Points!
In our class the children can earn Dojo points for being a good friend, being responsible, being kind or trying their best. These are our Magic Rules and the children decided on them in our first week of school. 10 points earns you a sticker, 15 a certificate, 20 a prize and so on. We have already had lots of children earning certificates and even a few prizes! Keep up the good work Primary 1.
Outdoor Learning – Reading
Today during Outdoor Learning we were working on continuing a story. We read Giraffes Can’t Dance and stopped after a few pages. The children drew story paths with different endings, made puppets to match the story and acted out the story with their own twists and turns! In their version giraffes really couldn’t dance!
Play in the Classroom
Primary 1 are really enjoying our new classroom set up. Lots of fun ways to apply and practise their learning. The children chose Space as their first topic and have come up with really interesting questions to be investigated and answered.
Bonjour à tous!
We are learning greetings in French. We can say Bonjour! Salut! and Bonsoir! if it is the evening. We can also say goodbye in different ways, one of them being à bientôt for see you later! We will be learning to express how we feel when we are asked Ça va? and we will be learning our numbers to 10 and some colours.
In the pictures we are learning ‘Bonne nuit’ for goodnight and learning how to use our mouth to make the correct sound for ‘oo‘ as in ‘salut‘.
À la prochaine!
