Busy March 🌱

The children got to celebrate world book day by walking to the library at the foundry to collect their books. πŸ“š They got the chance to look at some books and their own. The fairytale maps were a huge hit trying to spot the different well known stories. πŸ“–πŸ§šπŸ§ŒπŸ‘»

Also as part of the Big Walk and Wheel the children brought their bikes and scooters to school. The primary 7 house captains had different activities set up for them to participate in. They did really well with them, especially the speed test to see how fast they can go from one side to the other. πŸš²πŸ›΄

On Friday we also celebrated Red Nose Day. We learnt about the people that Red Nose Day helps. They joined in with some fun red nose activities in the gym hall.

We also had 3 winners in our class. Alana and Matthew guessed the correct number of red noses in the jar, winning house points for their house. Erin guessed Gromit’s birthdayΒ  correctly, winning the teddy to take home. πŸ‘

More busy and fun days to come. πŸŽ‰

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We have been learning about Scotland and it’s history. The children took part in researching Scottish traditional foods such as shortbread, haggis and Scottish broth. πŸ₯£

Together the children chopped, cooked and tasted soups they made. We choose to make vegetable soup and they worked together to chop vegetables from potatoes to carrots safely. They used safe holding positions of the knife to help protect themselves.

The claw hold is being used to help the children hold their vegetables securely while they slice down. The children put all the ingredients into the soup maker and heard as the soup chopped and cooked ready for them to eat. πŸ”ͺπŸ₯•πŸ₯”πŸ§…

Everyone took the courage to try the soup and by the looks on their faces most of them enjoyed it. 😊

Gymnastics πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ€Έ

Primary 2 have been learning about balance and coordination, completing a sequence of movements across an area. They have been using their arms to help balance them at the end of every movement. Working together they can complete a group balance too.

They have enjoyed having the climbing wall out to explore. Together they created different rules that are there to keep everyone safe while still pushing themselves to try new things.

Some of the children have been using their upper body strength to pull themselves up the ropes.

The children have also been working on their landing movements safely on 2 feet with their arms out for balance. They have been confidently trying new movements and every time they become more precise with landing.

Santa is coming to town.

The Primary 1 and 2 Christmas party was fun for all. Everyone looked very festive and sparkly in their fancy Christmas outfits. Christmas party games such as corners and musical statues with fantastic dance moves. πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

We were lucky enough to get a special visit from Santa during his busiest time of the year with a little gift for everyone!

November fun 😊

Primary 2 loved the children in need day with all the different activities. They particularly enjoyed the fun time in the gym hall and the toy sale.

We have been learning about endangered and extinct animals. The children had so much different knowledge that they found out and shared with each other. They have completed lots of different activities on this area from art to ict to writing. They have shared all their information Β clearly.

Autumn πŸ‚

We have been looking at the season and what things we can find in our environment that shows we are in autumn. We went out a walk in around our school grounds to see if we could see any signs of autumn. We found lots, such as changing colour leaves, pine cones, and we were lucky enough to have been given chestnuts. πŸπŸ‚πŸŒ²Everyone was very excited to open them and see the different conkers that were hidden inside.

We used paint and the conkers creating an autumn image by rolling them across the paper. The pictures turned out lovely with a mix of autumn colours. πŸŽ¨πŸ–Œ

Busy September πŸ’ͺ

We all loved having the adults into the classroom to visit this month.
I am so glad so many of you were able to come and see what we been learning.
The story of Jim and the Beanstalk was so much fun to explore through maths, art and literacy. πŸ“–

We have been working on our numbers to 100, building, creating and identifying. Tens and units houses have been supporting this.

Primary 2 have also been learning about houses and homes. They were looking at the features of different houses, the needs and wants.
They were able to successfully create their own house using different materials such as, pens, sticks and shapes.

First week back πŸ₯³

Primary 2/1 have been very busy coming back to school, working very hard. I can’t share any pictures of the children’s faces at the moment but here are some photos of the work that they are proud of.

Primary 2 have been learning their sounds and tricky words. They have been using different materials to practise their spelling words and sounds in class.

In the different areas of the classroom the children have been exploring the resources and trying the activities left out for them. There is an Art area, Construction, Literacy, Numeracy, Role play and STEM area all designed to develop their learning skills.

We are going to keep working hard and I look forward to sharing more pictures to showcase their learning in school.

Our Trip to the National Museum of Rural Life

Primary 1 had an excellent trip to the National Museum of Rural Life last week.

Our first stop was the farm. We had an exciting trip on a tractor trailer to take us there.

On the farm we spotted chicken, lamb, piglet, calf, highland cow and horse.

We got to visit the milking shed and had a go of milking a pretend cow. We could see the machinery used to milk cows on the farm.

Our next stop was a trip around the museum. We found out lots of new information and got to explore the garden explorers area.

We learned about the different things used on a farm.

Before lunch we even managed a little trip to the park!

After lunch, we had a Field to Fork workshop where we learned all about where our food comes from. We got to pick animals out of the bag and we were very good at identifying which produce comes from each of the animals on the farm.

We learned about wheat and had a go at using different grinding methods to make flour.

Finally, we made little planters from newspaper and planted some peas to take home.

What a fantastic trip!

Numeracy 🌟

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about right angles. We know they have 90 degrees, that a right angle turn means the same as a quarter turn and we can identify them in the environment. We were very excited to make our own right angle checkers and go exploring outside for right angles.

We have also been exploring symmetry and patterns. We are able to identify lines of symmetry in everyday objects and shapes and also in nature. We loved painting our own symmetrical butterflies πŸ¦‹ We can all identify a simple pattern, continue patterns and create our own.

Finally, we have been busy learning about directions. Using the arrow keys on Blue-bot we programmed him to go to different places on the mats. We confidently use the terms forwards, backwards, left and right turns and we are getting increasingly confident in saying β€˜quarter turn’ and β€˜90 degree right angle turn’.

You have all worked so hard, well done Primary 1! 🌟
