May 2026

Primary 6 have been very busy again this month!

We all worked so hard for our school show Aladdin Trouble. We had so much fun performing it on the day.

Primary have been learning lots of exciting things in Science. We have been working in groups to create our very zip line. It had to connect to a table and a chair so we had to use our problem solving skills we have been working on to complete the task.

We have been working our way through Bikeability and have spent the last 2 weeks on our local roads.

Our potato plants are really coming on and we have rehomed them outside now. We have had to work extra hard to keep them watered in all the lovely sunshine.

And lastly we are published authors! We were very excited to see our stories printed within “The Adventures of…” book.

Egg Decorating

We all decorated hard boiled eggs as part of our Easter activities. We thought about themes and designs and Mrs Gauld picked a top 3 and we voted for a winner.

Well done Creed on his winning design.

Open Afternoon

It was wonderful to welcome so many visitors to our classroom to share our learning and help us with our science experiment on The Water Cycle.

February 2026

Primary 6.2 have had a very busy month again. We have had lots of celebrations this month from Valentine’s Day, Internet Safety Day, Ash Wednesday. We also had a great afternoon celebrating all of the talents of Cross Arthurlie at XA factor. We were very lucky  as we got to cheer on 4 people from our class this year!

In PE we have been exploring our coordinations skills and learning lots of new tricks and balances in our gymnastics block. I have loved seeing how supportive you all are as a class and how you have helped each other to develop your gymnastic skills further.

We took part in a BBC live lesson for Internet Safety Day were we learnt about why you need to be a certain age to play certain games. We were then able to create our own safe place online where we could game and talk to our friends in a safe way.

We have been using Literacy Circles to help upskill our Literacy skills. We have started with a selection of David Williams books.

Chemical Reactions

We have been learning about chemical and physical reactions. We know a physical reaction is reversible (this means you can change it back), A chemical reaction is irreversible (this means that you can’t change it back).

We have completed a number of experiments to investigate the effects of mixing different chemicals.

If there is a chemical reaction we know one of the following will happen: changing colour, temperature, fizzing showing a gas has been released and a smell been given off.

We made bath bombs.

We made lava lamps .

Science – Light and Shadows

In Science,  we have been learning about the properties of light and how it can be used in a creative ways.

We explored opaque, translucent and transparent materials and completed experiments with torches to see how light is reflected and  refracted in different ways.

We explored how shadows can shrink and grow depending where the light source is placed.

Finally we made our own shadow puppets and performed our show to the class.

Shadow Puppet Show

Miss Fergus and Primary 6!

60th Celebration

Primary 6 enjoyed learning all about the 1960s as we celebrated our school’s birthday this month. We watched a family go back in time and learnt all about how the 1960s was a huge time of change. It was good to listen to lots of different music from the 1960s and we also learnt a new dance.

Children in Need

P6/2 had a brilliant day helping fundraise for Children in Need. We took part in some sports activities in the gym hall and also bought some toys and books from the Bring and Buy Sale. The best part was getting to wear our pyjamas all day at school!

October 2025!

October has been a very busy month for Primary 6!

We have enjoyed a visit from the Panto – Jack and the Beanstalk! This was a real treat.

Our topic this term has been Titanic and we have been exploring life on board this ship.  We took on the role of different characters that were on board the ship in a character hot seating activity. We had to identify which class each passenger was from based on the information provided during the interview.

Then we became artists on board the Titanic and created portraits of our passengers we were focusing on the skill of shading.

We had a very exciting treat from our local fire brigade they came to remind us all to be safe around fireworks. We also got to explore the fire engine and they explained how they used their equipment.

In the lead up to Halloween we have been doing lots of spooky activities from writing ghost stories to creating our very own “The Ghostly Night”
