The Engineering Academy is a pioneering programme that offers prospective students an alternative route into university and employment as a University of Strathclyde student.  A collaboration between the University of Strathclyde, partner colleges and the engineering industry, the programme offers a pathway to a range of engineering degrees within our leading Faculty of Engineering.

The first year is taken as an enhanced HNC programme within one of our partner colleges and successful completion of this year allows students to transfer directly into the second year of one our eligible engineering degree programmes.

Glasgow Clyde College is one of our partner colleges and we would like to invite you to an Engineering Academy information session which is being held on Tuesday 15th November from 6pm to 7.30pm at their Cardonald Campus.

During the session, you will have the opportunity to meet members of the Engineering Academy Team from both the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Clyde College who will explain the different pathways to becoming an Engineering Academy student as well as the benefits and opportunities that the programme offers.

The session will be open to pupils, teachers and parents.  Please note that places are limited, therefore we ask that only pupils who have an interest in Engineering and are studying Maths and Physics attend.

Modern Apprenticeships Programme

Why choose an NHS GGC Apprenticeship instead of College or University?

We believe that our apprenticeship opportunities offer young people an outstanding start to their working life. We offer nationally recognised qualifications up to HNC level or equivalent (SCQF Level 7), paid work experience and on-the-job training from day one. The NHS GGC Modern Apprenticeship programme is open to young people aged between 16 and 24 years and offers training opportunities in 9 different apprenticeship frameworks. These have been developed by the sector skills councils (industry specific employer led organisations) to meet the needs and expectations of employers.

An NHS Apprenticeship provides recognised qualifications and training, work experience and references, and a real advantage over other applicants in an increasingly competitive graduate job market.

What are the Pay and Benefits like?

Our trainees start on a minimum salary of £16,000 per year and have access to all the benefits available to NHS Staff. This includes 27 days paid annual leave and 8 paid public holidays per year.

What Qualifications and Training are offered?

The qualifications gained through out programme are all nationally recognised qualifications delivered by training providers. The qualifications are funded through the Skills Development Scotland Modern Apprenticeship programme and there is no cost to the individual trainee.

What are the Future Employment Prospects?

All trainees who successfully complete the NHS GGC Modern

Apprenticeship programme will be offered permanent employment

within the organisation. We have established career pathways and

development programmes within the organisation which support on going career development and support employees to work towards higher level qualifications, to develop their skills and progress within the NHS in Scotland.
