Persuasive Writing

We came back in after lunch to find that our chairs had gone on strike and they had left us the following letter…

Dear Primary Seven,

Blue Chair here. I shall keep this brief. I simply cannot work for you any longer.

Firstly, there is one thing in this world that I cannot stand and yet you’re just constantly inflicting it on me. I see you, glancing from side – to – side to see if anyone is watching you. Committing this heinous crime and then blaming the person sat next to you. I don’t think I can cope any longer with you passing wind.

Secondly, please take my feelings into consideration when you swing back onto my two legs. It feels as if my legs are going to snap in half. This is incredibly sore and painful for me and this is another reason for me being out of action today!

Moreover, what do you carry in your rucksacks? Rocks? As you sling your bag over my back, you have no thought for the aches that I harbour. I am an overworked and uncared for chair.

Well, let me tell YOU, Primary Seven, so long as I exist, I will not put up with this treacherous life any longer.

Signing off for a fresher smelling life,

Blue Chair

We were forced to sit and lean on the tables and crouch, lie and sit on the floor to write a persuasive letter back to our chairs to encourage them to come back to us. We have been learning about using persuasive language, rhetorical questions, emphasis and more in our persuasive writing and we ensured we used all the techniques we could to lure them back!

Making music

This afternoon during music we created our own beats and the rest of the class had to follow one person. We were learning about beats within bars such as:

  • Semi breve
  • crochet
  • minim

We were able then then make our own music with instruments such as bongos, triangles, drums, recorders and tambourines.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Yesterday was National Holocaust Remembrance day. To mark this occasion with the link to WW2, Miss Maybury taught a fantastic lesson from the perspective of a holocaust survivor. We had to use our note taking skills which we are developing within literacy to take notes of a holocaust survivors recount during WW2. Then we created our own codes to write  a message to Isabella. Many of us choose to write Isabella messages of support telling her to stay strong and that the war would soon be over.

Bismah’s Achievement

Well done to Bismah with her achievement at Kumon. She has been doing excellent math work in her free time at Kumon and the extra work is showing in her work in class too! Keep up the good work!

Energy

This afternoon we were learning all about different kinds of energy during science and how it is generated.  We were learning that energy comes in the following forms:

  • electrical energy
  • solar energy
  • magnetic energy
  • sound energy
  • personal energy
  • connect energy

We used our bodies to demonstrate the different ways energy moves and is created and then we worked in groups to create posters about what we have learned and then we presented them to the class.

Team work

We had a great time this afternoon working on our team building skills when we were completing the tasks set up by Miss Maybury. We spoke before we took on the challenges about what makes good team work and here are some of our suggestions:

  • don’t talk over each other
  • be a good listener
  • be polite
  • try and include everyone
  • treat others the way you would want to be treated when working in a team
  • communicate clearly with one another
  • be positive

All of these suggestions were clearly demonstrated during the challenges.

Christmas Quiz

We had great fun this morning competing in the Christmas quiz with the P7/6 class. There were 2 winning teams so it went down to a nail biting final question round between the 2 teams.

Budgeting for Christmas dinner

This morning we looked at budgeting and how to budget for a Christmas dinner. Each group had a different family to feed; some people had 7 in the family and others had only 4 and all had £100 to spend. We had to plan and calculate the total cost it would be to feed each family a full Christmas meal with a vegetarian there too! It was very eye opening to see how much Christmas does actually cost!
