Scottish Book Week! 20.11.20

This week was Scottish Book Week and we had so much fun in class.

Cara loved silent reading the most and even build her own den at home. We also read The Hodgeheg in class and she enjoyed the happy ending.

Ryan completed his book review during the PJ reading party on Friday. It was fantastic! His drawing of the lollipop lady was great! Ryan rated the book 5 stars.

Lyall has been reading The Twits this week in the P4 Reading Cafe. He laughed out loud at the chapter where the furniture was turned upside down!

Corey enjoyed doing the muddle poems the most and found it so cute when Max muddled his words up in the book. During the PJ party Corey  had his nose in a book too!

Fantastic effort this week p4, keep up the great work!

Outdoor Learning Week! 13.11.20

Health and Wellbeing

For Health and Wellbeing we focused on kindness. Donald loved writing compliments on his friends back and said it made him feel very happy. Aria said that it felt so weird having people write on her back but she loved reading the comments!

The Rainforest

In IDL we learned about the forest floor. Mason learned that the forest floor gets only 2% of sunlight. Colbie had so much fun and learned that jaguars, beetles and snakes live on the forest floor.

Outdoor Learning

For literacy we followed instructions and made a bird feeder. Ava learned that we need bird seed, lard, toilet rolls, a tray, lollipop sticks and ribbon to make a feeder. Aria enjoyed rolling the toilet roll onto the bird seed the most! In numeracy we played lots of outdoor numeracy games too!

Out in the cold!

We were out playing in the snow one day. The playground was very frosty and we spotted some frozen spider webs and icicles. We held a container of snow and Lacey conducted her own wee experiment to see if the snow would melt when we came inside.  It turned into the liquid-water. We all spoke about what we saw and it helped us to create a wordbank for our writing.

Read Write Count

Our parents came to visit us for Read Write Count. They looked at our learning. We looked at the bags we got and played them with our parents. Emily, Ava and Donald played the rocket game. Rhys’s Dad came and watched him play Helicopter Rescue which helped Rhys practise his numbers to 100. Well done P2b.

Raindrops keep falling on my head….

In Science, we were learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases. We made a cloud in the classroom. Kaiden said ‘We’ve made a cloud!’ “We were learning about molecules.” We had to stand really close together like a solid, and then we were wavey like liquid and then ‘floaty’ and spaced out like a gas!

“We blew bubbles in the freezer, to see what would happen to a bubble when the temperature drops. It kept on popping so we watched a video instead!” Cara

Kandinsky Art

During P2b’s expressive arts lesson, the children have been learning about Kandinsky. The children analysed the lines, shapes and colours found in his pictures and were given the choice of two of his pieces to recreate.

Children commented on the different types of images they could see. e.g. The descriptive language through discussion  included ‘wavy, straight, black lines.’  with shapes such as ‘triangles, circles, rectangles and squares’. This linked in well with learning of 2D shapes in maths this week too.

Using a variety of media and techniques, the children designed different pictures in the style of Kandinsky.

Doctor Doctor Sentences

P2b have been creating ‘healthy’ sentences. Children were given ‘sick’ sentences which had a variety of missing capital letters, missing full stops and spelling mistake.  The doctor was called!

The children had to correct these sentences as part of the target for the day. This target allows children focus on improving their writing and self edit thier work. As the children become more proficient during their play activities, it is likely to filter into their weekly writing lessons.

World Book Day

Primary 1 had great fun celebrating World Book day – even if it was a bit late due to the snow!

On Thursday we had an author visit us – Jennifer Gray who wrote ‘The Adventures of Ermine – who is very determined” was very interesting and we all enjoyed listening to her and asked some excellent questions.

On Friday we took part in our whole school World Book Day assembly and we wore our Goldilocks and the Three Bears masks.

Ava, Ryan, Emily and Kayla read out their writing about Goldilocks.
