Weekly Prayers
Monday 18 December 2017.
God’s Son became human and came to earth to save us. God had promised to send a Messiah, one who would save His people. He could have easily burst on the scene as a full grown man, a seven foot warrior with fiery eyes and arms of steel. This was what many people were looking for, but it wasn’t how God did it. He arrived in the arms of a young girl. He was “a very small package, wrapped in rags, given from the heart of God. The perfect gift.”
Our Father …
Tuesday 19 December 2017.
Today is the Tuesday of the last full week of Advent. As we prepare our celebrations of the birth of Jesus, we ask for the power of your love and your teachings to help us remember the true spirit of this season.
Advent actually means “coming” or “arrival.” It begins four Sundays before Christmas, and is our preparation for the birth of Jesus. It is both a time of celebration and penance.
The weeks of Advent remind us to set aside some of the hectic business of the holiday season, and to quietly reflect on the promise of the baby born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.
Let us pray for those who are not fortunate enough to experience the true hope that Christmas can bring. We remember those caught up in warzones, those who are ill, those who are in pain, those who are separated from loved ones, those who are grieving and suffering at this time of year, those who are lonely, those who are in despair.
We pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven….
Wednesday 20 December 2017.
The season of Advent is nearly over and the Christmas season almost upon us. Soon we will be overcome with presents, visitors and celebrations.
Lord and Giver of all good things, the wise men travelled from afar to bring the Christ child the first Christmas presents. May we remember with thankful hearts the love that comes with each present that we receive. We thank you for the love you have for each one of us, and we thank you for the many gifts that you give us. May we greet our visitors with warmth and love and may the light of Christ dispel the darkness of sickness, poverty, injustice, and suffering.
Let us pray. Our Father….
