Weekly Prayers

In our hectic and distractive lifestyles it can become all too easy to overlook our responsibility to listen to God, to allow him to move our hearts, to allow him to be the influence in our lives that he rightly should be. With this busy life of ours we can risk overlooking the very thing that truly matters, the very thing that will make us truly happy, the will and love of God. We particularly remember to pray for those whom God is calling to his service through the Priesthood or Holy Orders. We pray that we may come to know what God is calling us to do and be given the strength and courage to respond to this call.
With this intention in our mind and in our hearts let us pray together,

Prayer is important and must be a part of our daily routine. How can we expect to have a good relationship with God if we don’t talk to him? The following reflection focuses on the significance of prayer
I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day; I had so much to accomplish, I didn’t have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me and grew heavier with each task; Why doesn’t God help me, I wondered; He answered, “You didn’t ask.” I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, grey and bleak; I wondered why God didn’t show me – He said, “But you didn’t seek.” I tried to come into God’s presence; I used all my keys at the lock; God gently and lovingly chided, “My child, you didn’t knock.” I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day; I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Albert the Great. Owing to his vast knowledge and writings Albert is named “Doctor Universalis” This is a title which is given to the greatest theologians of the Church. His fame is due in part to the fact that he was the forerunner, the guide and master of St. Thomas Aquinas and for his comprehensive knowledge of the relationship between science and religion. St Albert was of the opinion that we answer the questions of life using our faith complemented by our understanding of science, wisdom and knowledge.
Let us pray. O God, Who did richly adorn Saint Albert with Thy heavenly gifts and did decorate him with all virtues: grant us, Thy servants, that we may follow in his footsteps, may persevere in Thy service until death and securely obtain an everlasting reward. Through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord. R. Amen.

Thursday 16 November 2017.
Today is the Feast Day of St Margaret of Scotland who lived in the Eleventh Century. She was Queen of Scots with her husband, Malcolm III of Scotland. Margaret worked to bring the Catholic practices in Scotland more in line with the practices of Rome and strengthen the unity of the Church in Scotland with the Pope. She was known for her kindness and charity working tirelessly for the poor and realised the importance of education for people.
Today, we ask for the intercession of St Margaret for our country and all Scots. We pray that like Margaret we will be kind, charitable and work to eradicate poverty.

Albert Einstein was one of the world’s greatest scientists. He once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge”.
Important as knowledge is, without his sense of imagination and creativity he would not have been able to make use of his knowledge to make such advances in science.
Let us pray:
Lord our God,
You give different gifts to each of us and you are pleased when we use our gifts well. Inspire each of us to use reach our potential and use our imagination and creativity for the benefit of others.
