Oxford Schools
Commonly known as ‘Oxford Schools’, the Oxford Union Society’s annual schools’ competition is the largest British Parliamentary school-level debating competition in the world. Over a thousand students are invited to participate every year and last year over 350 schools competed.
The regional rounds of the competition were held on Friday 12th January at Mearns Castle High School, and four members of the Public Speaking and Debate Society (Holly Edgar, Nina Millar, Andrew Ward and Euan Munro) participated. The pupils were presented with an excellent opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in public speaking, engage in thoughtful argumentation and test their analytical problem solving. Although they didn’t make it through to the final round, they thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
