Why Computing Science?

Computing Science is one of the most exciting fields that you can study or work in. Every day sees more amazing advances, and the number of career paths you can follow continues to grow as Computing Science encompasses more and more new technologies.

What will you gain?

By studying Computing Science you will learn valuable skills that make you desirable to prospective employers; these include project planning, problem solving, logical thinking, teamwork, and communication.

What could you do?

There are many areas you could choose to study or work in and the following list is some popular choices but is far from exhaustive: Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Computer Games Development, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Digital Forensics, Digital Media, Electronics, Engineering and Robotics, Information Technology, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, UX Design, and Web Development.

You could even be a Computing Teacher!

How would you learn?

With so many roles to choose from there are multiple routes into a Computing Science career. You could study for a degree at university. There are many honours and masters levels degrees to choose from. There are also HNC and HND level courses at college to consider. Many students will opt for an apprenticeship where they can learn their craft while working with an employer. Often employers will support apprentices to complete a college or university course alongside work allowing them to ‘earn as they learn’. If you opt for a course that doesn’t include an apprenticeship then you might still be able to undertake an industrial placement which can give invaluable insight into your chosen industry.
