Go4SET

Good luck to the following six pupils from S2 who will be taking part in the Go4SET challenge over the next 11 weeks. Go4SET is an environmentally themed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) project for 12-14 year olds which is managed by EDT (Engineering Development Trust).

The aim of the project is to inspire students towards STEM related careers by linking education and industry in real life situations using hands on learning and skills development. The pupils have been given a brief called ‘Create Sport’ which asks them to work as a team to look at creative, innovative and practical ideas for a new sports venue for the community with a particular focus on energy use and the environment. They are required to carry out research, write a report on their findings and build a model which represents their design proposal. They will present these pieces of work at the Celebration and Assessment Exhibition in March.

The team have been allocated a mentor from ARUP Ltd. who will support them throughout the project. ARUP Ltd. have been involved in the engineering of both the SEE Hydro and the Commonwealth Velodrome and it is hoped that the pupils will be given the opportunity to visit one of these venues to give them an insight into the importance of effective engineering.
