Hi stuck on question 13 of the 2005 Advanced Higher Biology past paper. The question says: A glucose molecule has a mass of 180 units and a water molecule has a mass of 18 units. What would be the mass of a starch molecule formed from 300 glucose molecules? A 43200 units, B 48600 units, C 48618 units,
D 54000 units
I keep getting B, but the answer is C
Me and Marianne we wondering if there are any marching schemes for essays on DNA replication? Thanks
You’ll have to come in and speak to Miss Mcluskey for them Matthew!
Hi Nisma
You have 300 glucose molecules each with mass 180 units = 54,000
I molecule of water is produced by the dehydration synthesis reaction all the way through the polymer except glucose molecule 300 as this is where the chain is complete
As such 299 (water molecules) x 18 = 5382
54,000 – 54382
= 48618 —–> C
Hope this helps
