P7/S1 Transition Programme – Mearns Castle HS Sports Festival

I write to provide you with more information on the above event as part of the Mearns Castle P7/S1 Transition programme:

 Date:               Monday 13th May 2013

 Time:              8.45am to 12.30pm

 Venue:            Mearns Castle High School

After the successful sports transition programme over the years, we are delighted to be able to offer it to all pupils again in 2013. All P7 pupils from all schools will be mixed together to participate in 3 different sporting activities (rugby, athletics and hockey).

Each pupil will be provided with a coloured t-shirt before the day and these must be worn on the morning of 13th May to identify pupils/teams (we do have a couple of spare shirts should pupils forget but please remind your child to come ready to play, if possible).  The colour of the t-shirt will correspond to the house group your child has been allocated for S1 and beyond.  As all activities will be outdoors and we can never guarantee the Scottish weather, pupils should also bring warm, waterproof clothing as there is limited shelter and if it happens to be a warm sunny day please ensure you bring some sun tan lotion.  Also, children must bring a spare T-shirt as we will collect the coloured house shirts for use in future years.

When pupils arrive, helpers will direct them to the lecture theatre where event organisers will give a quick introduction to the day and allocate the first activities.  Teams will then congregate and be taken to their first sport.  Each group will spend approximately 45 minutes at each activity before meeting back at the central point for the presentation of prizes to the winning team at approximately 12.15pm.

Lastly, children should bring a water/juice bottle (no fizzy drinks).  It may also be helpful to bring a packed lunch – individual schools will advise in due course.

I would be grateful if you could ensure that your child/children arrive at Mearns Castle for an 8.45am start.  Pupils will then be transported back to their schools for a normal afternoon.

Please note that pupils attending primary schools out with the cluster i.e. not attending Calderwood Lodge, Eaglesham, Mearns or Kirkhill) must be collected by parents at 12.30pm.

We all look forward to seeing your child on Monday 13th May for what promises to be a fantastic morning of sport.

Yours sincerely

Fundraiser for Yorkhill

In the early days of Andrew’s illness, Mrs Ferrier, Andrew’s mum had planned to run the Women’s 10K on 12 May to raise money for Yorkhill Hospital where Andrew was a patient.  Mrs Ferrier and two friends will run this race.  There is a sponsorship form at the school office for anyone who would like to make a donation.

Walk on a Wednesday

Thanks to everyone who took part in the walk on Wednesday last term despite the snow, wind and rain! The walking bus will continue as usual this term up until the summer holidays, so feel free to come along!

For those who have not been on the walking bus before it leaves from Albertslund hall at 8.40am on a Wednesday where a group of adult walking leaders will walk the pupils up to the school following a safe route.  If you would like to be one of the parent leaders please contact me on the number below.

If you have not been on the walking bus before and would like to, please fill in the form below and return it to the school office.
Thank you again for supporting our weekly walking bus.

Kind regards
