S6 ADVANCED HIGHER FRENCH – STIRLING UNIVERSITY TRIP

Recently our Advanced Higher French class had the opportunity to go to Stirling University for the day in order to listen to various lectures as well as finding out what it is like to study French at University. We took part in various group activities with the other schools attending as well as listening to a lecture on French society and culture which everyone found very interesting. We then had the chance to hear current students as well as former students of the university talk about what studying abroad was like and the skills that can be gained from the this. Overall the class thought that it was a very useful and interesting trip as we were able to see what studying a language at university involves.

The trip to Stirling University for the French department was, in my opinion, both insightful and enjoyable. We were welcomed at the beginning of the day to a taster lecture regarding events in French history that have influenced France’s development, recent cultural history and laws. The lecture was interesting and also gave a good experience on what it is really like to be a student at the university. Later in the day we moved to more interactive activities and seminars. These included listening activities and close study of texts written by students in France. The later day activities were very enjoyable and provided a realistic first-person perspective on student life in Stirling.

Not only did the trip help demonstrate daily life for those studying French in Stirling, it also provided a way to explore the grounds. The campus itself was very well set out and gave way to a fantastic view of the surrounding areas. The corridors and rooms were easy to navigate, with plenty modern art on display for all teachers, students and visitors to see.

The trip was very enjoyable and to anyone wondering whether it is the place for them, or even those curious to see the area I encourage them to go and give it a visit it themselves!
