P7B Term 2 – Week 3: 8/11/19

In P7 this week we have been very busy. We have done lots of different things such as art, gymnastics and writing. It has been very fun. We also had a sports assembly that Miss Regan showed us some of her gymnastics. This has been a fantastic week!!!

This week we have been continuing our gymnastics with Miss Kelly. We have enjoyed learning about movement. Some of the movements were hard like the teddy bear roll. Miss Kelly set up lots of different gymnastics equipment and fun activities. Miss Regan used to be a gymnast. She showed us some of her cool skills in our Sports Assembly.

This week in writing we have continued learning about writers craft. This week we focused on a story called “The Graveyard” and  all of our stories scared Miss Kelly with the terrifying monsters we came up with.

This week we did some space art using chalk and pastel and we learnt about some of the planets in our solar system. We started of by drawing the sun and circles for where our planets would go. After that we got our pastels and started to colour in all of our planets. My favourite part was when we got to colour in all the planets because we got to smudge the chalks and get messy!

In science we have been learning about space, and in art this week we continued our focus of space by looking at the artist called Peter Thorpe and learned about what abstract art is. We then made an abstract background and drew a rocket to put on the background we made. We also learned about how Peter Thorpe came to make the rocket paintings, and he used his old paint palettes to make the background. He loved space and science so that’s why he created paintings about space.

On Wednesday we had a sports assembly where we were presented with a Sports Scotland Gold School Award, and Miss Regan revealed her inner flexibility by showing the school some of the most amazing gymnastics Crookfur has seen.

In science this week we started a new topic on space and we have made space timelines from 1942-2030. It was lots of fun trying to figure out the order. We learned a lot of interesting facts!

In P.E we have been doing gymnastics. This week we focused on loads of different jumps like tuck jump, start jomp, straddle jump. We worked with different equipment and tried lots of different jumps, practicing our control and balance.

On Wednesday we focused on writer’s craft in writing. We continued the chapter First day jitters from the book “Wonder”.You had to keep the continue the style of the original author. Also, we continued on the characters like August and Mr. Tushman.

On Thursday evening, the whole of primary 7 not just from our school but from all the schools going to Eastwood got to go to an amazing open evening at Eastwood High School. We all got to go around all the classes and test out all the equipment and get a small taster on what we do at Eastwood.

P7B Term 2 -Week 1: 25/10/19

Everyone really enjoyed the start of P7 in Term 1. We are all excited for our second term in P7B. Lots of new things have been happening. These include: Starting our pound to profit challenge and our new science topic, Space! We have had a new pupil join our class too.

At the start of the term we had french visitors in to visit. We had a lesson with one of the french visitors and we asked her lots of questions about France and what it is like there. They came in to the class to see what we do and looked around our class and our school.

For the road safety competition we made posters related to road safety. We designed our own posters which looked amazing. When we were finished creating our posters, we all voted to make sure it was fair- Miss Kelly showed us one of the posters and then we put our heads down and voted. We don’t know who got the most votes and also one of the teachers will reveal the winner in assembly to the whole of the school and there will be a 1st 2nd and 3rd winner!

This term we started DYW which stands for Developing the Young Workforce. Everyone from P2-P7 will take part in a group. Every group has a different teacher in it and a different subject that isn’t normally been taught. There are four groups: Digital Technologies with Mr Aktinson,  Life Skills with Mrs Estlick, Design and Manufacture with Mrs Norman and Learning for Sustainability with Mrs Lamount.

For PE this term we have been working on gymnastics. This week we were focusing on balance. We were doing different types of balance: standing on one leg, doing different poses such as lying on our backs with legs up and touching each other. It was very hard!

P7a 11th November to 15th November

It has been a busy week involving parents night, Anti-bullying week and going down to the woodland.

On Monday Anti-bullying week started, in class we discussed problems with bullying and how you can prevent bullying and why, usually bullies bully people. We also had an activity that were you had to write something that something mean you called or said someone. Then we put them in a tub and went through them all and we acted out to see how hard it was to say these things to each other, even though people actually say it.

In maths some of us were learning about measuring and calculating angles. We learned about supplementary and complementary angles.

Wednesday lunchtime was our first experience in the Woodland area during lunchtime and it was great fun. There was a lot of team work supporting each other to climb as well as working together to discover nature. Over the next few weeks we will be exploring the area and using it to help work towards our John Muir award. Please remember and bring boots and any outdoor clothes on a Wednesday.

In P.E. We got an extra slot in the MUGA and since it was a cold and frosty morning we warmed up by playing ‘Capture the Flag’. It certainly warmed everyone up and Mrs Norman was impressed with our team work.

On Thursday afternoon we settled in to our new group reading in class. Taking the opportunity to do paired reading within our group. We have recently been discussing the importance of reading and how it helps to strengthen our own creative writing.

Finally we ended our week building some planets as part of our Solar System. We are applying our mathematics skills by using scales to shrink each planet down. Jupiter and Saturn are going to be the most challenging!

P7a 25th October

Date- Friday 25th October

This week has been very exciting in Primary 7a. We have continued reading Wonder and as the writer has been pretending to write as the characters in the book. For one of them we found out that the writer has not used punctuation and capital letters to make it sound like it was a kid who wrote it and our class talked about how a lot of people have not thought of the idea she did.

We also had a visitor from France who is wanting to open a school in France but they would talk French and English. She watched us to see how different it is here than France she also told us some French words and how she lived near the seaside. We showed her our classroom to show how we worked in Scotland.

We made road safety posters this week. It is a competition and if the judges like your poster you will get a spot on the calendar but it is a lot of schools so good luck to everyone. As we were drawing the visitor look around at our drawings as well.

This week we started DYW. DYW is when we split in to classes and do digital technology, design and manufacture, sustainability and life skills.

Class Novel – Visualisation – Auggie

On Wednesday the 9th of November, this week, P7b have been doing a visualisation task on our class novel, Wonder. To do this, there was a descriptive text that we read as a class.  After, we opened our Wonder booklets and we drew Auggie according to the piece of text. Visualisation is where you read a story or a piece of text and you imagine what they/it looks like.

PE – Line Dancing

On Thursday the 10th of October, P7B have been doing line dancing and we also did it with P7A. We have been doing line dancing for the last few weeks and most of us have enjoyed it! Since we had been practicing, we had memorised the dances and we were ready to move onto the next step. We did our dances to alternative songs. We did the same dance moves but to a different song with the same amount of beats. We did our dances to Think by ArethaFranklin, Old Town Rock And Roll, Rolling In The Deep by Adele and Cotton Eye Joe.

Writing – UNCRC and USA

On Monday the 7th of October P7b wrote newspapers about the UNCRC and USA. To help with  our writing we researched about the UNCRC and how it involved the USA for our talk homework. We had to include quotes and relevant information so that we could meet our success criteria.

Maths Week – 04/10/19

This has been a very busy week for P7b! We have had maths week, and learned 2 new dances in our line dances in PE.

Maths week!!! + x –

This week has been maths week, and we were given lots of new resources to do our maths with. We had geoboards and we used them to make one of the United states. This also links to our topic, the USA. Using the geoboards, we put the coordinates for famous landmarks on the states. On the Friday we had an assembly about maths week, and we showed the school how good our maths skills were. Also, every maths week there is a Maths Menace who leaves maths equipment all over the school. This year it was Miss Mckendrick!

Writing

This week in writing we did a very interesting piece, which was a newspaper article about the Statue of Liberty had went missing!  All the writing was really good, and we all enjoyed writing it a lot.

Science

In Science we have been learning about the life cycle of a plant, and we drew out a diagram of a flower and named all the parts of a plant on it. Also we learned that a plant has male and female parts and all the different ways that plants carry their pollen to make new plants.

PE

PE this week has been very fun, because Miss Kelly and Mrs Norman have started teaching us line dancing! We have learned 2 dances, one to the song Cotton Eyed Joe and and one called 5,6,7,8. Also we have learned 2 different dances from last week that are called the “Electric Slide” which goes to the song “Achy Breaky Heart” and another Scottish one called the “Slosh” that goes to “Beautiful Sunday”.  It is different to what we have learned before and it is very interesting.

Wear Red to School day

Friday was Show Racism the Red Card day, and we learned how some people have different views on people’s skin colour, nationality, culture or religion. Miss Kelly showed us some examples and we had to work out whether they were racist or not, thinking about if it was about religion, nationality, culture, or skin colour.

We all had lots of fun on Maths Week, learning all about racism taught us just how mean people can be because of skin colour, nationality, culture or religion. Learning line dancing was a fun and different approach to our PE.

P7B Term One – 20/09/19

In P7B we have started our class novel Wonder. It’s about a 10 year old boy who has Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS) and had never been to school before. The story is about him making his journey through 5th grade, his first year in a real school. We have are own Wonder booklets with all the activities we’ve done a visualisation task where we had to draw what we thought August would look like.

In writing we wrote about if we were president for the day.To help with our writing we researched about current laws and debates to do with America and what we would do about them for our talk homework. We also had to write in first person and use paragraphs to meet our success criteria.

In P7B, we have had an open afternoon, it is when your parents and guardians come and see your new classroom. On our afternoon, we were making a leaflet about landmarks in the USA and Scotland. We got a sheet of a landmark either from Scotland or the USA and highlighted useful facts. After that, we wrote the name of the landmark, drew a picture of it and wrote down the facts. At the end, our teacher Miss kelly, stuck all the Scotland leaflets together on a black piece of card and folded it into a leaflet and she did the same with the USA.

P7B Term One – 13/09/19

This week we were lucky enough to have a teacher from the science department called Mr McCormick come and teach us about planets. He taught us lots of different things about planets including the different names of planets and how far away they are from the sun. After this we completed a worksheet where we filled in lots of information about each planet including their temperature, how far away they are from the sun and other information like if they were a gas giant or not.

We learned about the Native Americans and how they hang Dream Catchers over a child’s bed. Each one of us painted a background of our Dream Catchers and then actually drew them. It was fun and interesting to learn about the traditions of Native Americans. After drawing them with pencils we outlined them with a black marker. Next Miss Kelly stuck them onto our wall outside the classroom. The blend of colours really makes our whole stage stand out!

This week in art we drew portraits of all they last fifteen American presidents. You and your partner got assigned a president and you each got one half of his face your task was to draw the other half. First of all we had to stick our half of the face onto an  A5 sheet of paper and then – using only a pencil – we had to carefully draw the other half of the president. I got John F. Kennedy, it was really hard.

We also made President Fact File about any President in the United States. We had to write down the key events of the President and some interesting facts. Learning about different Presidents was very fascinating and gripping. We learned many facts, for example, for Abraham Lincoln, I learned where he was born and about his Presidency. In addition to this, we had to draw a little picture of the President that we were doing.

P7B so far                                                                 Friday 6th September

USA

Both classes came together to vote on topics to do this we looked at the curriculum and thought of all the things we wanted to learn about and how we were going to learn them. After that we did a blind vote on our favourite and the outcome was the USA.This has been very interesting and exciting and we all look forward to learning more!

Class Charter

We chose our class charter and what rights are relevant to school. For example the right to be alive wouldn’t really be relevant to school however the right to play would be because we all need a break from work. We chose our theme as well and chose sea-life as our theme and it looks great!

Wonder

The class novel that both P7 classes are reading is Wonder. Wonder is about a 10 year old boy named August (Auggie) who has TCS. He starts middle school for the first time before being home schooled. The book shows various perspectives of different characters in the book.

P.E

This year 7B got a new P.E teacher “Mr Brown” he is very nice, kind and fun and always up for a laugh. We have already done the BLEEP test, finish longball, capture the flag and Islands! We have really been enjoying P.E and are looking forward to the rest of the year.

We have all really enjoyed P7 so far and are looking forward to the rest of the year which we are sure will be filled with fun and interesting responsibilities!
