On Thursday we will also be taking part in our workshop, Tomorrows Older People. Please remember to return the consent form for this workshop, and if if children could continue to bring in materials for the junk modelling part of this workshop. Thank you!

As part of Book Week Scotland, we attended a workshop from a Scottish author, Paul Murdoch, at Giffnock Library this week. The workshop focused on Paul and how he got into his career of being an author. He also showed us some of the techniques and strategies he used to come up with new, interesting and magical characters! Some of the news ones that we created were a ‘BODZA’ and a ‘CARXI’!

 

On Friday, we also visited the nursery to do some story sessions with children there.  We thought carefully about our book choice during our time in the school library, and even practised reading aloud with our partners, thinking about reading with expression and bringing the story to life through actions and rhyme!

Rebekah: ‘I enjoyed reading to the nursery because they really enjoyed the book, and the children were really funny!’

Imogen: ‘I actually found reading to nursery quite hard, but when we got a group of children they really seemed to enjoy it.’

Rafay: ‘I found it really fun because they kept on giggling at the actions that me and Eden did for the book!’

Ryan: ‘It was really fun but I struggled to keep the little ones focused on the reading!’

Hi all, please see attached a letter from Primary 5 who will be selling Sweetie Cones as part of their Enterprise topic. Cones will be available to buy from the week commencing 10th December, and will be £1.

As part of our learning during Anti-Bullying Week, we spent time exploring different types of bullying-typre behaviour. In groups, we then brainstormed different types ways to combat this behaviour. Some of our suggestions included acting empathetically, showing kindness and involving an adult. We then chose 5 different behaviours which we pledged to carry out, and then put them on our handprint ‘Anti-Bullying Pledge’. As a class, we decided to display them next to our daily timetable so that we have a daily reminder to think about ways to combat bullying!

As it is Book Week Scotland, primary 6 are being encouraged to set their own homework this week! Please spend the time you would normally use to complete reading homework reading a book of your choice purely for pleasure!

Also, with our Learning Assembly just round the corner, please spend some time learning your words!

Maths –

Mental Maths Grids will be made up by children this week, so issued homework will be in handwritten form. The grid should be completed as normal.

Other News

On top of being Book Week Scotland, it is also Road Safety Week! To raise awareness of staying safe on the road, we ask that you design a poster which focuses on ‘Bike Smart’. Cyclists staying safe on the road is something which is of particular importance for Primary 6 as we will be out on the road cycling as part of our Bikeability lessons in term 3 and 4. The poster will be designed in class and finished at home as homework. If these could be returned for Friday. Please see the line below for more information.

Road Safety Week

As part of Book Week Scotland, primary 6 will be going to Giffnock Library to hear a reading from author, Paul Murdoch. If children could please bring a pack lunch on this day as we’ll be leaving school at 12.40.

We’ll also be doing lots of other Book Week Scotland activities, so stay tuned to see more uploaded on the blog!

 

As part of our Barralay topic, we used our art skills to create a 3D image of what the inside of some of our family houses looked like. This helped us practise the visual element of form, and encouraged us to think about the scale of our drawings. Have a look around!

Thank you to all those who wore their odd socks today! We are definitely all different and all special.

Also, please don’t forget to bring a pair of trainers or dance shoes for tomorrow’s STV Childrens Appeal Dance-a-thon! Thanks to Thomas Stirling in p4 for arranging all of this.

 

It has a been a busy week in primary 6 with lots going on from science experiments to Parents Evening! Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain to attend their appointment, it was lovely to meet you all!

At the start of the week we spent some time in the ICT suite, researching the benefits of renewable energy as part of our Barralay topic.

As part of our Human Body focus within science, we looked at the circulatory system. In addition to taking notes from an informational video, we carried out an experiment to explore the components of blood and the role they each play.

First, we created plasma. We discovered that about 50% of our blood is made from plasma, which contains salts, minerals, nutrients and chemicals.

Then we added the red blood cells. This showed us how the red blood cells give blood its red colour. The shape of the cell showed us how they are perfectly formed to carry oxygen around the body.

After that, we added white blood cells and platelets. We found out that white blood cells fight infection in the blood, and platelets help to clot the blood.

At the end, some of us even enjoyed some of the marshmallows as a lunchtime treat. William said, ‘I’m going to enjoy these marshmallows, but not as much as I enjoyed that lesson!’

The Eco Committee are now collecting all Rag Bags which were sent out on Friday. We have until Wednesday 7th of November to collect as many as possible, and the more we collect, the more money we will raise! If you need any extra bag, please come and see Mrs Macintyre or Mrs Ali.
