Maintenance of Barrhead High

Over the coming few weeks painting, carpeting and new lighting will be  completed around the school.  The Theatre, stairwells and several classrooms are having a makeover.  The heating in the Theatre is also being repaired which will allow weekly assemblies to resume.

400+ lockers have also been purchased and information regarding these will be available in the future.

An additional 25 desks and chairs were also purchased which will give the school a full set of examination desks and chairs for the SQA examinations in May 2012.

East Renfrewshire Council has also agreed in year 2012-2013  capital expenditure funding to replace the swimming pool with a dance/drama/fitness area.

Pupil consultation for a Skate Park

Skate Boarding

We have been approached by Green Space who are considering funding a skate park in Cowan Park. If you would like to be involved in the consultation process please come along to the Eco Group meeting on Monday 27th Feb in the school library at 3.35pm where they will be asking for pupil viewpoints on whether it should go ahead or not. If you want to have your say then make sure you attend. Please let Ms Potter know beforehand if you are attending.

Litter Picks

Thank you to all those who helped out last week in our local litter pick.  We have more picks planned over the coming weeks so if there is an area close to the school you would like us to visit just let us know via the school office and we will do our best to help out.

Splendid Barrhead Victory!

Congratulations to the U14 Football Team on their 1-2 victory over Johnstone High School.  The difficult away fixture took place in treacherous conditions at Ferguslie Park, Paisley.

The boys gave a courageous display and exhibited a strong team ethic,  managing to overcome an early setback after conceding a penalty kick.

Robbie Townsend levelled the score after winning a brave challenge with the opposition keeper and Mark McKinnie’s cool finish ensured the 3 points returned to Aurs Road!

The players involved were – Ross Cooper, Ben Clements, Luke Wilson, Christopher Patrick, David Mundemba, Robbie Townsend, Daniel McCusker, Stuart Faulds (c), Gary Pritchard, Jamie McQuade, John Davis, Michael Toal, Ewan Stevenson & Mark McKinnie.

Mr Galloway and Mr Hendrie were both extremely proud of the boys – not only for getting a positive result but for the impeccable conduct displayed.

Fri 9th Dec – School Reopens

The latest advice from East Renfrewshire Council on Twitter is “We expect our schools, offices and services to reopen as usual tomorrow, but will tweet if there’s any change”.

We would expect therefore that Barrhead High School will be fully open to pupils and staff tomorrow (Friday).

Keep up to date with the latest information on the ERC Twitter site or check back here for any change.

Recycling – fundraising

Barrhead High School is very grateful to ReUse It on Muriel Street, Barrhead (near the train station) who have allowed us to place a clothes recycle bin on their grounds to help raise cash for our school funds – so far we have raised £110.

If you have any old clothes or brick-a-brack please take it along to the recycle bin or bring it into school and help raise even more money for our school fund.
