Barrhead comes to Old Trafford

img_1847Our first Premiership visit of the session saw a first visit to Old Trafford to see the mighty Manchester United take on Stoke City.

img_1819-2Although they looked the superior team on paper and had the home advantage – and much of the pressure and more of the chances! – they failed to capitalise on this and Stoke came away with a 1-1 draw.

img_1838Our seats gave a great view of the goal-mouth action.

The 45 pupils still had a great time and represented the school and themselves superbly. This contributed to making it a great experience for the 4 staff accompanying them.

Well done to all!

U14 football team

Team went down 2-1 against Eastwood yesterday. The boys put up a spirited display and performance, but just not enough in the end. In my opinion (obviously a tad biased) the boys deserved something from the game.

MOTM: Logan didn’t put a foot wrong the whole game.  Two goal line clearances and a number of mazy runs to help out offensively.

Goalscorer: Christopher (S1) smashed the ball into the back of the net after the goalkeeper pushed out an Owen free kick.

Behaviour was impeccable again, highlighted by opposing coach and referee.

Hard lines boys, roll up the sleeves for next week.

Under 14s football

footballteamcoloursLast week the boys travelled to Lenzie Academy to play their 2nd round cup tie, on what was a cold and wet night the boys ran out 1-0 winners.

Goalscorer: Scott slotted the ball home from inside the penalty box after he was set up by Owen who ripped open the oppositions defence with a mazy run which started just inside the oppositions half.

MoM: Scott who accompanied his goal with a solid and industrious shift on the right side of midfield.

All of the boys worked their socks off and were superbly behaved, though special mention must go to Hassan who stepped in last minute to play in goals, and despite not being a goalkeeper, managed to keep a clean sheet.

Well done boys, the third round awaits.

Under-14s Football Team

footballteamcoloursThe scores are in: U14 Football team.

Barrhead HS 1–1 Eastwood HS.

Goal scorer: J Catlow who superbly rounded the keeper when put through one on one.

MoM: E Lithgow

Williamwood HS 2-1 Barrhead HS.

Goal scorer O Wilson from the penalty spot.

MoM: O Wilson.

St Ninian’s HS 9-0 Barrhead HS.

MoM: L McGarry who gave nothing less than 100% the entire game.

Although the results aren’t quite going the way the boys would like; their behaviour, effort and attitude has been brilliant, a real credit thus far.

Thanks

Mr Herd

S1-2 Football Team

Hard lines to the S1/2 football team who in spite of their best efforts lost 11-1 against a strong S2 St Luke’s team.

Despite being behind and up against it for the whole game, effort levels did not drop nor did the standard of behaviour on the pitch.

 Hard lines boys.

Man of the Match: Ryan Dobbins who despite playing out of position produced a solid display, well done.

Under 16’s vs under 18’s football

Barrhead High School’s under 18s football team hosted the most local derby ever – a match against Barrhead High’s under 16s!  The game was closer than anyone had expected: with both teams playing superbly as they attempted to claim the pride.  Jamie Cochran gave the under-18s the lead with a fine goal and it looked as though it might be a smooth sail for the seniors when they were given a penalty not long after.  However the shot was saved by the in-form 16s goalkeeper Ross Cooper.  The game really took off when a bullet-header from Steven Pringle gave the younger team the equaliser.  The enthralling game could be summed up as a great defensive show from both teams as the defenders were more than matching the strikers.  In regulation time, the game finished 1-1; with the seniors taking the victory in a, just as even, penalty competition.  Regardless of the result, the performance of both teams stands them in good stead for the coming season. Well Done!

Girls’ Footballing Success

Congratulations to Barrhead girls football club on the first week of their 7-a side league winning 4 out of 5 games against teams across Glasgow. They managed this with only 6 players!! This was an outstanding performance for Iona Ross, Demi Richardson, Chloe Blakey, Iona McDermott, Tia Mure and Victoria Docherty.

Under 14s – Football Result

On Tuesday night, Barrhead hosted Mearns Castle in an entertaining game which finished Barrhead 7 Mearns Castle 3.

Barrhead started brightly with Cameron Stewart scoring a hat-trick and Blair Richardson also scoring, in a superb first half performance. Barrhead made changes at half time and Mearns came back into the game with a stunning free kick from 35 yards and a penalty kick. Barrhead then got their own penalty when Dean McLaughlin was brought down in the box, with Lee McTernan slotting the resultant kick into the bottom corner. Cameron Stewart then scored his 4th of the game following good work on the left wing. Eddie Fleming completed the scoring, slotting the ball in from close range. This was an excellent performance from Barrhead in their first game of the season. Well done boys!
