Rotary Speaking Competition
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) has, for many years, run public speaking competitions for young people. On Thursday 17th November, Barrhead High School took part in the contest which was held at St Luke’s High School, Barrhead. The team consisted of: Chairperson Richard Barr; Main Speaker Richard Halligan & Proposer of the vote of thanks Ross McFarlane. The boys drew the short straw on the night – having to speak first – a frightening proposition for even the most confident of speakers.
Nevertheless, the team acquitted themselves very well. The theme of the presentation was ‘Enough of all this doom & gloom!’ The boys were able to put together a strong performance, eliciting praise from those in attendance as confident, courteous & professional in their approach. Although they did not win on this occasion, the strong performance is an encouraging sign for future competitions. Well done!
