John Muir Award – Parent Feedback

The John Muir Award was introduced as a pilot award this session and we are keen to gather the thoughts of all involved to help us improve the experience for future year groups.
We would be very grateful if you would take a couple of minutes to complete the following survey and tell us what you think.

Duke of Edinburgh

This session a small group of pupils are working towards achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Award. This is being supported by parents of the group and Young People Services. We would like to congratulate the group on their race night which raised a whopping £875 – well done to all involved.

You can raise funds for Barrhead High School while you do your Christmas (or any other) shopping online through easyfundraising. All you need to do is log on to their site first and register – a two minute task! You will then be able to access many of the major online retailers eg Amazon, Argos, Debenhams, ebay, M&S, and many more. You will purchase at the normal price but the school will receive a percentage (usually 1-2%) of what you spend.

Rotary Speaking Competition

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) has, for many years, run public speaking competitions for young people. On Thursday 17th November, Barrhead High School took part in the contest which was held at St Luke’s High School, Barrhead.   The team consisted of: Chairperson Richard Barr; Main Speaker Richard Halligan & Proposer of the vote of thanks Ross McFarlane.  The boys drew the short straw on the night – having to speak first – a frightening proposition for even the most confident of speakers.

Nevertheless, the team acquitted themselves very well.  The theme of the presentation was ‘Enough of all this doom & gloom!’  The boys were able to put together a strong performance, eliciting praise from those in attendance as confident, courteous & professional in their approach.  Although they did not win on this occasion, the strong performance is an encouraging sign for future competitions.  Well done!
